  1. yes that's the kit I just dropped USD$30 on...
  2. interesting project idea. Yeah, that red color looks more like red primer to begin with, right? Then weathering tones it down to a grimy red brown The 1/25 and 1/35 model projects were/are military subjects yes, def post pics of progress or completion whenever you want. I'd like to check this out
  3. Interesting, but I don't have that Freight Train Graffiti book. Sounds like an awesome project and in G scale, are you going to weather it too? Do you have pictures of the 'phantom' side and roof too? That always bugs me when I do a replica I've been into a few 1/35 and 1/25 scale projects lately. The latest 1/87 was that failed attempt at a reusable wheel mask I posted progress on in the GWRXR ...
  4. yup, pretty much what Zed said esp. with the HO scale cars. This is a very common scale and most affordable and available. It sounds like you want to try this out for the first time. Flee markets, swap meets, garage sales, and second hand stores (thrift shops) have the 'toy' types there for sale on the cheaps. Unlike Zed mentioned above, I would encourage you to look for the 'toy' Tyco and Lifelike brands in the HO scale for affordability to try sht out. See if you like the hobby before investing your rent into it These are generally not perfectly detailed for accuracy and are priced lower but the scale is workable
  5. thanks for the heads up, I'll check it out
  6. I've been out of the loop for a minute but I think Model Trains Weathered is gone  http://www.modeltrainsweathered.com/
  7. that's what I see on the news and internet searches. Lots of old Toyotas and small puck ups of various other makes very interesting subject for scale models
  8. new company, new product Meng Model produces their first model in the Velociraptor Series VS-001, and it's a technical in 1/35 injection molded styrene with photo-etch
  9. only 14 years ago.. This used to be the average price for plastic automobile kits in 1997. Found this while cleaning house today
  10. don't have to paint the whole model. I just wanted to show you one way of approach. sure, leave the red parts red
  11. _:MemphisOrDie:_ - this might be helpful when you are ready to paint it: http://www.wittwer.nl/?p=784&lang=nl
  12. this one of yours, AUDI 5k ?
  13. that's badass dude! (AUDI 5k) good link, watson _:MemphisOrDie:_ - going to your local hobby shop this weekend? Look for a Testors acrylic paint set. These hobby acrylics thin and wash up with water. These will cover smoothly over an enamel aerosol primer and yeah, about that gun barrel breakage... dude... amateur move right there... haha you can fix that with a careful application of the super glue looking forward to this build
  14. don't forget a can of inexpensive primer unless you already have some at the house
  15. yeah, you probably will want to paint this one in sub assemblies and then weathering after complete assembly
  16. that's how I approach sht too, seriously well, to get started there are a few tools and material to have on the bench: - flush cutters or small dikes (no /hatin') - 'exacto' hobby knife no. 11 blade - tweezers - small file - 1 part tube putty - sand paper of various grades starting at about 600 - styrene plastic liquid cement - super glue (CA) no body uses that stringy tube glue anymore except huffers. Too hard to control just take your time, no dead lines on this
  17. I don't know what that packet is. That's a crazy looking walker machine. Looks like a conventional oven or an eighties boom box body post in progress here if you want. Are you going to paint and weather it with battle damage?
  18. Re: models... Drone Drone MQ-9 REAPER, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle 1/72 scale. 2 kits in one box
  19. this was on PBS last week in the morning. Caught some of it briefly before work. Looks good and interesting I might buy the DVD, will that help?
  20. well done, Watson. Very clean build Aérospatiale Gazelle 705 NAS Royal Navy 'Sharks'
  21. yup that pretty much sums it up
  22. I heard a radio show about Area 51 today. It was Fresh Air hosted by Terry Gross. The guest was Journalist, Annie Jacobsen talking about her new book this reminded me of the Testors model kit of the 'UFO' in 1/48 that I built years ago a six and a half minute video about this kit that I found on the toob I strayed away from the instruction sheet slightly
  23. remarkable, thanks for the link he's got a couple other egg models built, very interesting and well detailed
