got the bike fixed today. turns out there's some real quirky nonsensical wiring shit that needed to be done for no explainable reason. got it sorted out with some help from the internets and the bike fired right up. after that i side mounted the speedo, hacked the old speedo houseing/indicator piece, ground it all down and made a tiny plate that sits on the top clamp. not as fancy as bruno's, but free. i also wrapped some baffles in fireproof cloth and stuffed em in my pipes, since the things were way too fucking loud. it made me look like an asshole. now it just sounds a little louder than stock. then i took the bike out and really rode it for the first time. dude, riding is fun as shit. also, 40mph feels fast as fuck on a bike. at least in comparison to a car. damn. anyway, thats all for me for today.

pretty sure ive narrowed it down to inadvertently hooking up a phantom tach wire. lights were back on today. we'll see tomorrow when i try and fire it up again. if that isn't, i have no clue.

unless the battery decided to go loose the split second i hit the 'start' button, i dont think thats it. i was doing all the wiring with the ground unhooked, and had just hooked it back up, and tightened everything. i seriously dreamt about this bullshit last night. i get way too OCD sometimes. its not good.

whole lot of crazy going on in those. tried wiring up my speedo today. previous owner cut it before the harness. thought i had it all set, speedo lit up, indicators worked fine, hit the start button and killed everything instantly. checked the fuses, none blown. now it wont do anything. a little freaked out/annoyed. worried i might have blown the ignition or something. more money i dont wanna spend.

02. ordered the autometer clamp couple days ago. not sure what im gonna mount it to though. everyone ive seen doing these is 04+, my body is different. thinking i might have to go off the tank bolt. did you have any issues with your wires when you moved it down? seems like theyre not long enough to keep the indicators up top and speedo downlow.

ah. 'fishboy'. came across that dude on the XL forums. $150 or so, right? theres also a version of the dyna headlight visor that has them built in, but its only for the 04+ models with LED lights. mine has bulbs. shit be gay.

so do turn signals and not running an all black bike. i dont know, we'll see. if you've got any suggestions for hiding a speedometer on this thing, it came with the stock one removed, and i dont really wanna put it back up between the bars... shit is just too big. read something on some forum about relocating it to the left rocker box, but i cant find anything on how to go about it...

ha. ironheads are just pre evo sportsters. i think they changed around 80 or so? wikipedia would tell me, im just too lazy to look. they're as quality as you want to restore them to be. theyre also gonna cost me as much as a 2004, which while nostalgically cool, doesnt make a ton of sense in my situation.

finally broke out the angle grinder today. chopped off some shit, ground some shit. heat wrapped the pipes. now i just need my new tailight and plate to show up. i know triple will hate it, but i think its looking ok.

reupholstered my seat last night. you probably dont think that sounds easy, because you're probably smarter than i am. it fucking sucks. but its done and looks ok. pics someday.
