glorydays
I'm gonna take this time to break up the monotony of pics I've been posting designers that I believe will be able to bring some sort of stability to whatever is happening in the fashion industry. In my opinion and observations, there has been a vast disconnect between regular consumers and the "designers" who charge a premium for their goods. For the past 6 years, I've seen new brands crop up and parade out shitty graphic designs, bad sewing, and unethical industry practices. There was also a lot of "cultural appropriation". I am by no means easily offended simply by a statement or tee shirt graphic. What bothers me is that these "designers" want to keep a clear distance from a marginalized group of people while at the same time using that same group's culture as a "reference" to use for their "designs". If designers are going to "refer" to certain cultures, then those cultures deserve, at least, a shout out. Culture vultures tend to set their sights on the latest "hot trend" and cash in on it hard. A good example is Sean Wutherspoon, who makes a living as a glorified Instagram supreme reseller. He modeled his entire business around the "resell hype" that grew from Instagram. Reselling at rape prices is already a repugnant practice, but to glorify it and make it seem "cool" just validates an already toxic consumer culture. I'm extremely glad that the hype machine is finally plateauing and leveling out, allowing brands to breathe, take a step back, and go back to what they're actually good at. glorydays
I've spent time talking to @misteravenabout this subject. Mostly about the state of streetwear and in some aspects, fashion in general. I've always argued for honesty and substance in design. Those two traits, along with experiences, allow good designers to reference an honest and substantial well of knowledge and experiences that translate well as a graphic, design, or work of art substance and honesty Those are the two things I've embraced when reading about 12ozprophet's history. I've been a part of this community for years now, ever since I read about it in the supreme Rizzoli book back in 2008.

I've been selling off my streetwear and buying less but higher quality clothing. I'll start looking like a clown if I wear what kids are wearing at my age. I've been buying older comme des garcons labels and other Japanese designers lately Most notably Junya Watanabe YES TO JUNYA!
