Among Allen Park’s most famous and unusual landmarks are the cement arches that span over the DT&I (Detroit, Toledo and Ironton) railroad tracks all the way through our city. Henry Ford built the arches in 1920 to support the electrical wires for his electric-powered train that ran from the Rouge plant, through Allen Park, and down to Ironton Ohio -- roughly 300 miles!

The train was only in use from 1920-1930 because diesel-powered locomotives replaced the electrical type. The train weighed 372 tons, the top speed was 35 miles per hour, and possessed 5,000 horsepower.
