In 1966 JR Shaw and Francis Shaw formed the Capital Cable Television Company Ltd. in Alberta, Canada. Four years later in 1970 the Capital Cable Television Company Ltd. received their cable license enabling them to begin operations. One year later the company had their first customer, and changed their company name to Capital Cable TV Ltd. From here the company slowly spread its cable services to provide for a great amount of the western part of Canada. It was not until 1984 when Francis and JR Shaw changed the name of their company to Shaw Cable Systems Ltd. Shaw Cable Systems Ltd. then began to purchase other smaller cable companies all over Canada. The company continued to grow. In late 1993 the company again changed their name, this time to Shaw Communications Incorporated. Currently Shaw Communications provides its services to over 1.8 million homes in Canada. Along with providing cable services and digital cable services, Shaw Communications Inc. also provides interactive television and many types of high-speed Internet services.
