  1. GZ - you should not be painting right now. Fill up an entire sketchbook cover to cover before you even start thinking about paint. SERIOUSLY. Note: EVERYFUCKINGBODY (except Weasel) who posted pics on this page needs to hit the books and focus on simple straightlines. Nothing more. No connections, arrows, etc. No round letters. No wild anything. You have to crawl before you can fucking walk before you can fucking run marathons. Here's an example of how simple letters look. BITE THIS STYLE, PLEASE: http://www.shapelessmass.com/offsite/simple.jpg Here's another example I did for someone who wanted to write "REMIX" a long time ago: http://www.shapelessmass.com/offsite/remix.jpg Get the idea? See how the letters are all the same size (approximately) and the width is relatively constant too? See how the 3D makes sense in space? See how the letters are clean and have no connections. THAT is what you need to be doing, many of you. If you can't do these type of letters, QUIT NOW. YOU WILL NEVER GO ANY FURTHER. Master that. I made those on computer. You can do the same thing. Just type your name in Arial or Helvetica, make it bold and thick, then draw that over and over doing your 3D as a simple 45 degree angle. TRUST ME. Doing this will make you better.
  2. They do make white decos in both fat and thin sizes but like I said... problems with the sticking and rubbing off for me. However, I have neither of those problems with Zig white opaqing markers which come in a fine point size about the width of a mechanical pencil lead on up to big-ass chisel tips. I found mine at Michaels. I also use Elmers paint pens which come in two sizes and cover nicely without any rubbing off or sticking. Those are the two I highly recommend.
  3. Thanks for the help. You guys just saved me money. Course if they weren't in that big-ass package, I'd have racked them.
  4. I hate these threads just as much as the rest of you. I DID check and couldn't find an answer to this question and it's real specific. I already have a good assortment of markers I use and am happy with but if there's something better out there, I'm always willing to try it. Before I put down some money on an expensive ($15) set of paint pens, I just wondered something about it. I've used Decocolors and had problems with them sticking to the other pages in my book and rubbing off on the covers really easy. Anyone used Sharpie paint pens to know if they don't stick to the other pages? Simple question. Like I said, I searched and couldn't find an answer to this one so if the admins want to delete it, just post a link to the answer before you shut it down (if it has actually been posted before). Thanks.
  5. Gestalt... your 3D is so far off it's borderline humorous. Pick a vanishing point and use it throughout. You need to read up on perspective and how it works. Sorry...
  6. Shit's nice, ask... You need a book with no lines it.
  7. It's going to be interesting seeing how we act here in Augusta where he is from and lived.
  8. That SATIRE was me. From my toy years. It's my website. I mean, click on my profile. So, as you can still see (and I've looked many times since I started using that name four years ago) that there ARE real words that aren't taken. If there's another Torgo, that's cool. I only use that in books for fun (big fan of MST3K, where the other person had to have gotten it). But who said it had to be a real word? Not me. My point is that there are a million combinations of letters out there. More combinations than there are writers. Sure, if you pick something obvious like PSYCHO or VANDAL or BOMBER you're going to be picking something taken. But who says you can't write SYLVR or KLETTU which both have great letters and are not taken by anyone I can find on google. Those are just random examples I found in a measly two seconds worth of google searching. So, bottom line, there's plenty of stuff not taken. Just get creative and remember, it's the letters in the word that are more important than the word. You supply the meaning of the word yourself.
  9. Every time I hear this "every name has been done before" shit I want to punch somebody. THERE ARE TONS OF NAMES THAT HAVE NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE. I write "SATIRE" and until I see another, I am pretty certain I'm the only one. I also fuck around with "TORGO" which is also unused. Just use Google, type in the name you want plus "graffiti" and see what comes up. Common words are usually taken but every once and a while you get lucky.
  10. Extra bump for that BAME shit. That's straight fire. Hey NOMAK... is this you? http://www.shapelessmass.com/visuals/graffiti/breaklanta_nomak.jpg If so, we met at Breaklanta (but you probably don't remember me). I sucked back then, though.
  11. stil... that first RANT is EXACTLY what you need to be doing... Keep down that road.
  12. enigmatic... I like the first one... the others, not so much. Not bad... just not as good as that first one which is great.
  13. This isn't finished. Just the top of the page with no halo or background (but it will have all that: http://www.shapelessmass.com/offsite/unfinished_business.jpg Latest shiznits... http://www.shapelessmass.com/offsite/wild_red_and_orange.jpg http://www.shapelessmass.com/offsite/maze_collage.jpg http://www.shapelessmass.com/offsite/god_collage.jpg Criticism is appreciated (and likely).
  14. Look... even the kings use the same styles over and over. They change up position, extensions, connections and color schemes. Ever seen two different COPE bombs? I haven't. Neither have you. I'm not saying it hurts to have different letters styles. Hell... I have two different handstyles. But toys need to master one set of letters before branching out. And you keep doing your simples after you start getting wild and then contrast the two as seperate styles even if the letters are the exact same direction. Sorry, but you're way off on that one, phun. No offense intended. That's a big mistake toys make. They think they need to come different each time. Toys need to master their letters. Then they can start making new styles. Just my two cents. Take it for what it's worth (which would be two cents).
  15. nyda: go to the toy sketch thread.
  16. And I'm so glad this joke thread turned into a real one. It's just like the story of Pinnochio.
  17. Decos stick to the other page in my old blackbooks when I used to used to use them. The Elmers work just fine.
  18. Decos stick to other pages...
  19. That last one is great. You should post these to the 3D pages section too.
  20. Pourine... I like the hand but those letters... um... go simpler.
  21. Ya'll need to take lessons from Duse... Motherfucker burns simples and lays his 3D down right. Study that shit. Bump for Duse.
  22. Those Junk simples are a good start. Keep that up. I'm just curious why so many of you (and this is a "if the shoe fits" comment) have such scribbly letters. I mean, never mind being able to compose letters... if you can't draw a straight line stop now. Go try something else. If your letters look like you were riding a roller coaster while blindfolded holding the pen in your teeth during a seizure in an earthquake, what the fuck is wrong with you? STOP! YOU WILL NOT GET BETTER! Spend a little time on your shit. That's how you get familiar with it. It's a zen thing. Again, that comment was not pointed at everyone. You know who you are. Just slow down. It's not a race. Spend a little time learning your letters. Now is when you grasp the basics and find things out.
  23. bouncing soul The "K" and the "W" are pretty damn good on that first one but the rest of the letters aren't quite the quality you normally come with. Better than most, still... Love to see it colored in.
