  1. seems to me, ODS-1 that you may be confused. check his quote again... it reads: - 1/2 table spoon of potassium permagnate & - 1/2 tablespoon of brake fluid
  2. if you want to thicken your ink, use the single pot method. if you wnat to mix up some ink but keep the consistancy somewhat thin, use the double-boiler method. either way, bring your combined inks up to a simmer and then start stirring. after a thorogh mix, kill the heat. once you have reduced the heat, stir in the ghosting additives before the ink has cooled back down to room temp.
  3. :twitch:-wear a respirator and open a few windows. :beat:-a double-boiler set up is not as harsh on your ink.
  4. ^^^spirits wont make for an accurate buff test. if you really what to know how your inks stack up, use something stronger. something closer to an actual buff. or use your inks in a spot that you know will get the professional buff and go back later to see whats left. krink gets crushed by the buff. has anyone had any luck ghosting a barrier coating?
  5. what did you say you used for a buff? you gotta try to buff with the real if you want to get some accurate results. i've buff tested kink with an arosol containing tetrachloroethethylene, dichloromethane, and toluene and it wiped everything clean. krink is weak.
  6. yo sneak that sounds aweful. you know that there is a tape you can get at any well stocked hardware store that is designed especially to be placed between threads on an threaded item to help seal any gaps in the threads. i cant remember what its called but i had to get some awhile back for an air-compressor and it works like a charm. just wrap the male end of the threads in the mentioned tape and then just screw or unscrew threads like usual, no need for wrapping tape around the exterior of the marker or for getting yourself cut. bet that corio hurt like a beyotch in that cut. you might want to invest in said tape.
  7. yup... but OTR suckes badliest and i got a few ounces of it left. so in this case its sorta like a double negative, mixing "sucks badly" with sucks badliest in order to get some weak ink off my shelf, creates a thin/drippy/light ghosting ink that works okay-ly. and its not creating a noticable build up behind the nib.
  8. i've got some griffin in my OTR flowie right now and its doing fine. i mixed it with the OTR flow pen ink and gentian violet in a double boiler. that works with marginal success but i agree, if a nib is competely saturated with paint and you want to run ink through it, your second best bet would be to soak it in thinner... your best bet of coarse would be to get a new nib.
  9. keep on looking for that right consistancy. it doesnt look like that batch covers thick or even enough but your probably not far from something good...keep on tweakin' it.
  10. not a bad idea chumba. saturating the nib might delute the paint ink. i think i might just fill a shot up with ink and let the nib marinate in it over night. yup... that just might do the trick.
  11. so pushed my pilot through some wet paint marker ink during a tag. now that pilot is streaky but its still has a full tank of ink. turns out some of the paint-ink absorbed into my pilot nib and is jacking up my lines. any tips on how to clean up an save the nib?
  12. yea just put a couple small marbles or ball berings in there and either one should double as a paint marker. more than likely your gonna need a fresh nib too.
  13. chalk-board eraser tips really shouldnt go in any marker with a pressure activated valve. they wouldnt be stiff enough to open the valve when you mash on them. if you are thinking about jamming the valve open, a better bet would be too take the valve apart and then reassemble it without the spring or the plug loaded in it. if you do that though, be sure that you keep the marker standing upright or when you open the cap its gonna be messy.
  14. ^^^ eraser felt fits well into pilots.
  15. yea omega is chump. a came with my mini-wide when i got it 4 years ago. i went through it pretty quick and got 2 more bottles back before i knew the first thing about inks. the first time i experimented with inks was in '99 with that 2nd bottle of omega... thats when i realized how shitty it is. i still have that 3rd bottle. so what then is the skinny on corio? never used that one either. i think i'm leaning twards nero unless corio is better. of coarse corio is difficult to get stateside right?
  16. ODS... its no big deal but im starting to wonder... how long have you been writing?
  17. ^^^ yea chumb... its a beast. i was thinking it could use some pruning or thinning out. i cant find shit on here anymore. rubbish, someone needs to give you a set of keys for some house cleaning.
  18. you've had zigs leak on you? what kind of ink did you load your zig with when it leaked? i assume you mean it leaked through the nib... how bad was it? has it happened more than once or do you think it was just busted up marker?
  19. like whoa. thats probably gonna leave a bruise.
  20. the only times i've found the uni px-30, its always behind the counter and from what i understand replacement nibs cannot be ordered seperately.
  21. Re: Woop Woop weeeeerd. nice find, six of the oldschool mini's. yup just pour the ink right on in. just go slow cause they're easy to over fill. hey chumba, can you check the sticker for the name and the location of the place that used to distribute them. the sticker on mine is all faded and half saturated with ink and i cant remember the name. i used to have a bottle of ink from the same place but that was gone along time ago. i guess i'm just wondering for nostalgia.
  22. i think you just have to add equal parts of a real thin ink to bring it to a workable consistancy. i added some griffen to OTR dirtyflowpen ink with some gv and its mad drippy. in other news, i just cooked up some nice purple for one of my broad-tip uni's. the problem is now the nib. its an old one that has had paint-ink of a different consistancy and color running through it which now is keeping my ink from flowing proper. anyone know of a way to get uni replacement nibs or another nib compatible with the broad uni's? any help given will not be forgotten.
  23. nice color. are they both the same batch of ink? the first one looks metalic. keep working on those letters. a great ink can grab attention but after that its up to your handstyles to impress. its the old one two combination.
  24. china's natives speak japanese?!:o __________________________________ INK LAB 101: anyone know what chemically occurs when mixing an alcohol and a zylene based ink together. i found an almost empty bottle of each at the back of my ink shelf. niether one contains enough to fill a marker so i thought i might just mix them and put them over heat to make space + one is pinkish red and the other is electric blue... i would love to see what shade of purple comes out. would i just be wasting time and ink trying to mix? i've never mixed bases before. is it like oil and water?
