I did a quick search for train signals in this thread, but I didn't see anything so if this has already been posted, I'm sorry. This is good learning for anyone who spends any amount of time on the tracks, unless you don't mind getting run over or cut in half.

Train signal meanings for the US ---> http://www.railroadsignals.us/basics/basics4.htm#Signal_Colors_and_Their_Meaning_

KEEP IN MIND THAT SIGNALS ARE DIFFERENT FOR OTHER COUNTRIES, AND CAN ALSO DIFFER FROM STATE TO STATE OR PROVINCE TO PROVINCE.

a layup is only a few cars, a yard is what it is...
you think cops would know stuff like that.

stick to lay ups.......the yards are a bit more critical of writers from where I am from
the local yard here has a rep for being careless.......they even squish the workers from time to time

layups are alot smaller and in some cases arent very well guarded, if at all...some can be walked right into more or less..

yards are a totally different story though..much more security, more cars, more rail police. did i mention more cars? hahahaha.

Hey I want to know if you guys think it is wise to wear a reflective vest in the yards.. that way if a rail worker catches you, he might think you are actually caring about saftey, and have some common sense. Pros? Cons?
