Based on the length and content of that story it looks like it could be summed up in about a 15-30 minute short. They're going to throw in gun fights for padding. I just know it. Still one of my favorite authors, I just don't think any of his books/short stories translate well to film Except, the Barnhouse Effect. i actually liked the slaughterhouse 5 movie they made. i'd like to see billy the poet get his own movie.
