T4M*
SAN FRANCISCO, California, Dec. 12, 2007 (NBC) -- Forget the book. Thousands of California teenagers are now ditching the dmv handbook and heading to the net. Multimedia Watch The Video The California Department of Motor Vehicles has gone high tech, uploading 55 separate learn-to-drive videos onto the YouTube website. Miriam Gonzalez says college students like her are unlikely to read the old fashioned driver's safety manual. "You already have so much reading to do on your own. And so much more studying that it just makes it hard to find time to be able to read the actual handbook that they give you," she explained. California is the only state educating drivers via YouTube, allowing motorists to learn the rules of the road in a whole new way. "Right now our YouTube channel has received 16,000 hits, that's just the home page alone. Our videos are averaging anything from 5,000 hits to a couple hundred hits," said California DMV spokeswoman Jan Mendoza. The YouTube connection allows the DMV to reach more young people than ever before, at no cost to tax payers. It's free. http://www.ksn.com/news/also/12429231.html
