~>MooseKnuckle<~
Some real old school school train shit! im gonna go out on a limb here and say i dont think this train was even in service when graffiti began in NY. these were the last car types to be in service before the R types which are the ones that were around when graffiti began to appear in the late 60s. This was a SIRT car built in 1925. im sure it was out of service by the 60s. shit was probably just used to haul workers or supplies and just happened to be in the yard when the WANTED crew came through. Boltcutter
Yeah I was thinking the same thing...probably a work train of some sort. At the beginning stage of graff the oldest cars running were the coalminers on the letter lines. This is definetly and IRT car. Dope flick in any event. ~>MooseKnuckle<~
correction, these shits still were in service in the early 60s but by 68-69 when graffiti began to appear i dont think they were still in service. yeah, i think the coalminers were part of the R - Type. looking for some now..... Boltcutter
@zed...thats a sweet shot too. Looks like 36st workyard in Brooklyn My bad that looks more like the Carnarsie yard now that I see a platform next to the yard. Only other yard that is off the platform like that is 180th in the Bronx and that definetly isnt that.
Boltcutter
Old School Seen tags which I would say are circa 77-78. Love his older hand style
~>MooseKnuckle<~
i think these are the ones called coalminers R1's i think these are the ones IZ refers to in interviews. no graff on the trains, but the tags on the wall is a pretty good indication of what was in store. Boltcutter
@zed..beat you too it on the L yard shot...took a second though. 36st yard was known for primarily being a work train storage yard. That above shot with the Seen tag is definetely the scrap yard at 1st Ave & 45 st in Brooklyn.
~>MooseKnuckle<~
that flik with the seen tags are smashing. good shit.

Boltcutter
Yep those are definetly the coalminers...There are some shots of bombed colaminers in the "Things that Are Cooler Then I do" sticky in Metal Heads section...TOP crew had them cars on lock in 75-
Boltcutter
that flik with the seen tags are smashing. good shit. So is that one with the Blade & Comet tags you posted.
~>MooseKnuckle<~
on second thought i dont remember any water tower around there, and the white building at the little scrap yard was much bigger than that. could be wrong though
Boltcutter
The death of the coalminer! One day Im going to make a poster size of this flick for my living room wall. I would love to know where they wer cutting these trains up.

Love his older hand style on third thought, after a cursory glance at my own fliks this appears to be the same structure in the background, even though this flik is from 88. your right - i missed where you said 45th street & 1st (the big scrap yard). i was thinking of 36th and 1st (the little scrap yard). i aint been over that way in like 20 years. i heard theres a costco over there now, where the pipe yard used to be. Not where the Bush Terminal building is but closer to 40th st.
