Thats a good question. The answer is it all depends on what you want. If you are like me, you paint mostly for the flick. If the thing runs, it's an extra added bonus that is important, but not criucial to some. Also, if that's all you have to paint, then paint it! However, if your yard if filled with BNSF boxcars painted last month and there is one rusty BN in there, i'd skip that one...

I'm still looking for a photo of a BNSF fuel tender, if anyone else wants to join the hunt, I'm offering a box of Carnation instand breakfast as a reward, but you gotta come to my house to retrieve it...

i guess growing up in the north east i have taken conrail (and my knowledge of it) for granted. some of you guys make it sound like a big deal to paint a conrail car. dime a fuckin dozen in the area known as the north east corridor. ummmmmm yeah, i'll shut up now

el mas: I'm afraid no such beast exists...the only place BNSF uses fuel tenders any more is a small operation in nebraska apparently...they probably still run in the BN paint job. I'm glad I dug around looking though...I found some great images on railfan.net's archives of ABPT posts...lots of good BNSF photos by Joe Testagrose (he shoots alot of stuff for Trains mag) and some other strange stuff...I'll post a few in a little bit....

wicked. when i see fucked up old rusty dead trains it makes me

really think about how i should start paying attention

to fr8s and maybe make some effort to putting art on

them in the future. backrounds like that are just fuckin' gorgeous,

something thats really hard to find in the cityscape sometimes.

its interesting, you can see a few people

doing fills and backrounds to mimic this kind of effect on

walls these days...transcend comes to mind etc....

that apple fr8 was amazing(by itself, i wouldn't like it with graff on it).... and same with that rusty

old baby blue engine out in the middle of nowhere(maybe?).....

dope shit. post some more old ass rusty trains please.

ese: i read that UP bought 50 or so of those huge reefers...they are about 8000 cubic feet, based on those northern stars that i guess were a bit of a test project for BN. so if you see one of those shits, its a rarity.

There is a really, really cool site out there called railarc.org . These guys are SERIOUS trainspotters... they basically collect photos of all kinds of rolling stock. They have a HUGE archive. If you have the # of a freight you want flicks of, try looking for it there. Here's a few random things i found by doing a search for RBOX and BNSF and stuff like that... they also scan them at a very high res, so you can actually see what is going on. Check them out

Did a search for KCS and IC ... this is sorta like benching, you look at tons of shit, once in a while there is some graff, mostly crap, but once in a while you see something cool...
