That was a complete train wreck.
Wasn't the "other guy" in that equation Jeff Whitehead? As in Jeff "Leviathan: I beat my girlfriend and tattooed 'whore' on her pussy" Whitehead? He's made some pretty good music in his day but his contribution to that saga was probably more entertaining.

I've read a fair bit of philosophy over the years with a particular interest in phenomenology and existentialism. I'll just go ahead and give you a list of my must reads:
Etienne Gilson - The Unity of Philosophical Experience, this is hands down one of the best commentaries on philosophy as a whole, I cannot recommend it enough
Heidegger - Being and Time, Nietzsche (4 part lecture series)
Nietzsche - Beyond Good and Evil
Aristotle - Metaphysics, Politics
Plato - Dialogues
Sokolowski - Intro to Phenomenology, great summary of the movement and that which lead to it
Safranski - Martin Heidegger: Beyond Good and Evil, probably the best biographical commentary on Heidegger's school of thought, another book I cannot recommend enough, wonderfully written, anyone with an interest in history should really get a lot out of it.
There's obviously a lot of other stuff out there but I'd say this is a good getting your feet wet list that still contains texts the seasoned reader would find useful.

I liked him a few years ago when he was getting press for yelling at people. At that time he was coming off as a straight shooter telling idiots what they needed to hear and I think that fired up a lot of people and helped create the buzz he has. Nowadays though...he just comes off as a bullshitter who frankly is better at telling people off than actually doing his job.

BUT: Most of those places have back taxes due, and even if they don't the annual tax rate on the property is more than it's worth. The copper is all gone (crackheads) and most of the millwork worth anything has been destroyed, so no profit there. Then most of them are riddled with asbestos, the removal of which is ridiculously expensive. Even if you do get it razed, they have full basements, so it's an open pit you are liable for.
It's not that bad, you can purchase whole blocks by cutting a deal for the back taxes, you just have to know how to deal w/ the blacks who have simply no interest in doing business any sort of legitimate or reasonable way. But yes, all must be razed/filled and preferably owned as LLCs. The property taxes suck but aren't more than the property is worth (certainly more than the house, but not the property). Dollar stores and non-profits have built structures on a proportionally minuscule number of my properties in the past ten years and the rent that they pay covers the expenses of owning all of the other ones. It's the long con so to speak but it's definitely worth it if you can sink the money into it.
