This wasn't meant to study. It was meant as a reference. Yes, if you want to be a writer... practice...as I said. If you sit studying this fucking diagram and don't put pencil to paper you are an idiot. To even suggest that is what it's sole purpose is for....is a gross assumption.

Yeah, for sure about blind leading the blind. I understand that. I don't think I'd try to help out any more than what I have learned in design school. i.e. colors, typography, heirarchy. But don't think I'm gonna be oversteppin LOL
Even with all the training it doesn't help unless you practice....as with anything.
I've got a calligraphy book somewhere....was thinking about busting it out a week ago but couldn't find it. I saw a post about a tattoo lettering book, seemed interesting enough...maybe that could help too.

I gotcha....what I mean is they might have gotten the keyboard letters down or simply want to expand past it. Wouldn't critiquing their existing work without pushing them back to doing keyboard letters let them do just that? No one said, hey you bit my style, when some toy was doing a simple letter....maybe one could use some different types of crits to get their own style flowing...that's all I really wanted to bring up.

I'm guessing that this thread should be renamed "All Toys Must Draw Simples Here". Yeah I know toys gotta get the basics but how are toys going to progress with style if all they're drawing is keyboard letters. Makes no sense to me.

Essentially Photoshop has good examples of script, roman, and gothic which are the three major font styles. Classic tattoo font is a pull from roman lettering, but just go to any bookstore and look in the art section. there should be a few books on fonts and lettering, also check a library, and antique stores for rarer examples.BJ betts is my homeboy....
Looks like script to me....not roman. Unless script was originally pulled from Roman.

Gridpapers might not help YOU, but they do help some people.
Typographers use grids to design typefaces...i.e. fonts. It's a widely used standard to design anything really....not just typefaces.
Oh and jk about the crobars. Bars are what make up the letters. Such as the straight left side of a B or a D....or an F...you get the idea.
