  1. Just a quick update, we're still installing the new server. The database move may be rescheduled for later, expect intermittent outages throughout the next few hours, some things took longer than expected. Thanks.
  2. So in reply to all you guys: 1) IRC will be open to all, the main channel will be #12oz 2) Other channels can be created at will 3) Misteraven and I will be the sole IRCops for now, if anyone here has run a irc server before (unrealirc ircu hybrid with services) let me know, I'll def put you down for ircop status. 3.a) Channel Operators will be responsible for moderation, kicking misbehaving users etc.. 4) We will be running services on the IRC server so you'll be able to register your nicks/channels 5) Eggdrop bots are a peace of cake to setup, I'll throw up a thread later about possible features that you want implemented in them, i.e. quotes, weather, stats, new posts, hot threads etc.. 6)
  3. They used SAM Broadcaster, it's easily done. Radio station can go live this summer if all goes ok. IRC in 48hours or so.
  4. I'll tell you what casek, If the upgrade goes well today, I'll setup an IRC server tomorrow. Or maybe if I have some free time at work today, I'll set one up. CALIgula: I'll discuss the logistics of a station with Misteraven today.
  5. Physically all the servers are 2U's. A rack unit is a unit of measure used to describe the height of a server, network switch or other similar device mounted in a 19-inch rack or a 23-inch rack (refers to width of rack). One rack unit is 44.45 mm (1.75 in) high. One rack unit is commonly designated as "1U"; similarly, 2 rack units are "2U" and so on. The size of a piece of rack mounted equipment is usually described as a number in "U". One rack unit is also sometimes referred to as "1RU"; most server racks have 42 U of height. I've attached a picture showing a server just like ours.
  6. Seffiks, I have nothing to do with how the upgrades are being paid for, nor do I know how they're funded. Misteraven is purchasing the hardware I'm taking care of the rest. As far as what V.I.P.'s have access to on the site, this is another thing I have no control over, I typically work in the background making sure the servers stay up and running, although recently I've gotten a little more involved.
  7. Yep, it's been a long time comin'. My personal goal is to get a radio station going by this summer.
  8. We're adding a server to the cluster and moving where the database lies to the new server. Most importantly, the site should be way faster, and shouldn't go down (as often ;-)
  9. As mentioned in the announcement, tonight marks the beginning of a round of upgrades to be performed to the 12oz servers. Feel free to suggest/ask/discuss.
  10. If you're on windows go to start -> run -> type in 'cmd' and hit enter. In the command prompt type ipconfig /all, look for the line that has your gateway (probably 192.168.1.1) and enter it in your browser.
  11. In soviet russia, forum posts YOU!!

  14. yeah man, she was looking for "in a relationship" it's probably her way of testing you to see what you think of the relationship you guys are in.
  15. shiiit, she could pee in my butt.
  16. I've managed / ran many streaming radio stations, iTunes or VLC on the mac will play just fine. If allen wants to go ahead and do the radio i'll be more than happy to help him set it up, furthermore to keep it legit I can help acquire the proper licensing.
  17. Okay, I just finished my latest session of tweaking, first we did some sysctl hardening, next I followed up with some tweaking to improve throughput and lower cpu loads. So far this has been a success. Next thing that was done was heavy tweaking to the MySQL config file (my.cnf). I'll be doing some benchmarks and give you guys a mytop so you can see what's going on. I setup eAccelerator, this caches the php pages and keeps them pre-compiled, this saves cpu and promotes faster page loads. I also performed some security work, setting up tripwire, rkhunter, firewalls and other intrusion detection systems. I'm sure I'm missing a couple of things, I'll fill them in later, if you guys have any questions feel free to ask.
