server will be going down in just a bit for another hardware upgrade. this should be the last one for a while. mysql and apache were also optimized, and wanga threw in a custom kernal. we also set up php caching, so this is about the best we'll see. when done, primary server will have 6gb or ram. we already put the new drives in the other night. (4 x 146.6gb ultra 320 scsi @ 15k rpm configured as raid 1+0.

give me a quote on the first one... 1 x DC 2.6ghz, 1gb, scsi.

so the board is pretty damn fast now thanks to the new server and drive setup, as well as all of wangas optimizations. we still need to add the ram which i assume will have a big impact as well, making the board almost instant.

alright, we got the new server up. turns out we didnt receive teh ram, so that'll be going in tomorrow or the next day (we're running with the default 1gb). also wanga is going through and optimizing mysql and apache, as well as compiling a custom kernal for the new box. let me know if you notice any issues.

i'll get back to you when the dust has settled a bit. too much shit going on right now.

css is only formatting. you cant develop anything with css alone.

yeah, leaving in 15 minutes to go install it. i'll hit you up when it's deployed, but you should know just off how fast the board will be. running raid 10 on 15k ultra 320 drives should make short work of the read/write times for the forum db.

we just ordered another server... HP DL385, dual dual-core opterons 2.6ghz, 5gb ram, 4 x 146gb ultra 320 scsi @ 15k rpm configured for raid 10. will be installed tomorrow.

i'll talk to him. it's an idea we been sitting on for at least 8 years.

longest uptime w/o crashes: 12oz, and its server have never crashed* how much space the db consumes: 1745244397 bytes. how much bandwidth is being used per month: 10gb a day average (but we dont host many images) *up until a few months ago, virtually all downtime was the result of bandwidth outages or network problems at shitty co-lo facilities. that has since been resolved by moving to our present host, which has had 0 downtime in their history. any recent outages (like the last week or so), was the result of purposely pulling our server offline to install and configure low level services, as well as compile a custom kernal. we've had database corruption issues, but thats not unnatural for a database as large as ours, coupled with the fact that we've also integrated a few of our scripts which required modifying the stock database structure, and moved board scripts several times in our history (requiring translations and imports) which doesnt help.
