The US is being rather reserved in their approach to what is happening in Syria.

I reckon there might be some math there.

The reason for this might be that Syria is Russia's long-time ally on the Levant, they even run a military base in Tartus. I'd be surprised if the U.S. would risk serious conflict with Moscow by sending UAVs or troops that openly support the rebels.

Those rebels are U.S. and France backed. Their foremost goal is most definitely regime change otherwise they would not have ignored Assad's dialogue offer. This move suggests that they are not interested in a political solution but rather plan to further escalate the conflict, probably in hope of U.S. military aid.

The American and French ambassadors have officially declared their support for the rebels, they even have visited Hama which seems to be sort of a rebel stronghold. Unfortunately i still have no idea what the rebel's actual political goals are in case they succeed with removing Assad and his Ba'ath party from power.
