Want to try etching or some other technique but dont know how to go about it, or what techniques you can really use on copper. If anyone has any experience, could definitely use some help. I used to have a friend that would do some crazy stuff to copper, I thought it was an acid wash that he used. Anyway instead of posting that not so useful info I tracked him down. EliAlibi Posted February 4, 2010 Share Posted February 4, 2010 If you are going to use the ferric chloride on the plates, you also need a resist like a hard or soft ground to block out parts. It's available at Dick Blick online or some other good art store. I heard rumors that Sharpies and paint pens work too. But copper plates are so expensive, I've been wary of ruining one. But if you want to try it, let me know. Also, make sure you do it in a plastic tub, not metal. And agitate it every so often so the bubbles don't ruin the precision of the image. A lot of processes fall under the term intaglio, like drypoint, aquatint, engraving... Oh, and remember if you are printing the plates on paper, everything appears backwards.
