Dear Valued Sony VAIO Customer,

Sony takes pride in the quality of its products. Recently, we became aware of a potential performance issue affecting a limited quantity of units of the following notebook PC models:

PCG-FRV25

PCG-FRV27

The issue involves the notebook's analog phone modem which exhibits slower than desired communications speeds when the PC is running on AC power. In addition, there is the potential for shock hazard under very remote circumstances--namely when the notebook is connected to an analog phone line, a user is touching a metal part on the notebook (e.g. parallel or monitor port), the user is grounded, and the user's phone rings. Finally, the possibility exists of a phone line being disabled while both the notebook is connected to an analog phone line and a grounded peripheral (e.g. printer or monitor with three-prong plug-in) is connected to the notebook.

We are contacting the registered owners of the potentially affected notebooks directly to inform you of this issue and direct you to the proper channels for service repair, if necessary. If you are concerned, you can use our online toll free application, located at the following URL (www.Sony.com/pcsupport) to test the speed of your modem. The download utility will walk you through the testing process and will inform you whether you should contact Sony for further diagnosis and/or arrange for a free repair.

If the download utility indicates your notebook may be affected, please disconnect your modem from the phone line immediately, and contact Sony at (800) 880-9743 for further diagnosis and to arrange for a service repair. Repair of your PC is covered by Sony's limited warranty. Sony will provide express pick-up and return shipment at no charge.

The satisfaction of our customers is our number one concern and we will work diligently to ensure that your VAIO notebook is in top working order. As an added accommodation for the inconvenience associated with any necessary repair of this performance problem, Sony will extend the current limited warranty of your system to two (2) years from the date of original purchase for those affected notebooks that require the service repair.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your support in this matter.

Sincerely,

Sony Electronics, Inc.
