  1. http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/09/04/japan.children/index.html

TOKYO, Japan (CNN) -- Yoshiko Sato would love to give her only son a brother or a sister. But money struggles and Japan's cost of living have pushed the mother to wait.

Japanese mother Yoshiko Sato says the proposal "would help us with a second child."

A proposal to pay parents about $3,400 a year per child has got her thinking seriously about expanding her family. The cash for kids plan is the brainchild of the country's new ruling Democratic Party of Japan, which came into power during the elections this week. The proposal has garnered supporters and critics.

"It would help us with a second child," Sato said.

The proposal would pay families the money every year until the child reached high school. It is an effort to boost Japan's birthrate, which is one of the lowest in the world and is a major drag on the country's economy. It is compounded by Japan's rapidly aging population.

About a quarter of the country's population is older than 65, according to government figures. By 2050, that number is expected to reach 40 percent. Watch as some parents ponder procreation »

Nevertheless, the money for babies proposal has its critics. Economist Yuri Okina said she wonders where Japan's government is going to come up with the money to fund it.

The plan is not an instant fix, she said. What's needed, Okina said, is a way for women to remain in the work force after having children instead of being forced out because of lack of child care.

"We have to make it normal in Japan for a woman to raise a child and have a career," Okina said.

Critics also have said the plan would not fix a significant problem for working families -- the lack of day care centers. About 40,000 children are on waiting lists for day care, according to government figures.

These facilities' scarcity is problematic for mothers such as Hiromi Espineli.

"Going back to work would be tough," she said, "since there are so few day care centers."

    Cliffnotes..

you bang em, they get government money money til your seed is in college.

oh, also... Japan has alot of old people and the young ones ain't producing kids like the matrix due to economic reasons..

anyone down for a road trip to help asain women out? i love asian women, sigh..

  2. Ebay

    Half.com

The textbook gig is a scam. Such a fuckin' rip-off. Then when you go to sell them back they are either not buying them back or will only give you a small percentage.

I always waited a week or two to see if you really needed the text. I've taken some classes where we never once cracked open the "required texts" or needed to; everything was based on the lectures and everything discussed in class.

    THIS^^^

Another alternative, which is slightly ghetto fabulous, (but cheaper, so who fuckin' cares): See if they have the text at the schools library and just "rent" it for the semester, or just photocopy the pages you need from someone as you go along. $200 vs. $20 in copies from Kinkos, or totally for free is you have access to a copy machine.

You can always get a job at the bookstore (or get friendly with someone who already works there) and get it the old fashioned way....steal it.

Also, try looking for torrents of PDF's online. You never know!

or just photocopy the pages you need from someone as you go along.

or do it at work and not pay for a thing and get paid making copies of your books for school. did it for 2 semesters save like 2G...

  3. Zombie totally misses the point or cares to forget what MM was supposed to be:

    The Boogeyman.

He's not supposed to have a face and be some long haired hillbilly.

A movie about a regular, real life serial killer is always good, in fact they are scarier than the ones about these supernatural fictional characters. RZ is trying to take a supernatural type character and ground him in reality. Like I said, Meyers was supposed to be the Boogeyman. Why take away the mystic of a character, when that was pretty much the only thing that made him interesting?

Besides that, the dialog in all of his movies is terrible, along with his poorly written, cardboard characters and his fascination with middle American, hillbilly, pseudo-70's white trash.

Brutality and gore in a movie/story is fine when it's warranted, but to just randomly throw scenes in for shock value is a waste and a cheap device.

RZ is to Horror movies as Michael Bay is to "Action" movies.

For the record, I was NEVER a fan of any of the Halloween sequels. The original was the best one and is a classic. It spawned an entire genre of horror films: The Slasher. The original Halloween 2, was decent, but they should have left that character and that franchise alone. A sequel is only good if it pushed the story along, logically. If not, it's pointless and only done so a studio can milk it for a few more $$$$.

Myers was and still is the Boogieman, I also liked the second Halloween. It wasn't going for such shock value as anyother of the ones past it. except for maybe the dude on fire getting run over by the car that wasn't MM or the scene in the hospital where he cranks up the temp and basically boils the dude. Sequels always need more to out do the last one, didn't you see Scream?? Dudes basically outline the 4 elements of Horror Sequels...

Meyers OG character was in 1970 in Western Ohio, maybe the characters were like that back then? it is possible.

Shock value is cheap for this type of horror movie but it's almost request by the corporation to sell more, you are right. look at the budgets compared to back then to know. They def are expected to gore the shit out of you to have people talking on the streets just to fill the seats.

    John Carpenter's Halloween > Zob Zombie's Halloween > Everyother Director's Halloween

I didn't see it yet but i will and give my 2 cents 4 free..

  4. Yo my Storm Got A SIM Card Slot And I Can Use It For T-Mobile , Aint that Some Shit...

all the phones use the same kind size physically, you can pick the MB. The phone that you are just under their thumb is the Apple iPhone............................... ;) :o

  5. Bodies in the morgue, bodies in pieces, bodies dying, bodies that just died.. my job allows it.. you become immune after sometime and develope i sick mind on top of the one you have to have to find humor in the forum.. it's quite fun actually.

haven't found a loved one yet, that will be new. My moms side of the family went to her fathers place after nobody heard from him for a couple days... you know how the story goes..

  6. This is unfair. I'm far from a coffee shop hipster, have tried both devices and platforms and made my decision accordingly. I don't think the iphone is superior because of a hipster trend (everyone has one now, its not like its a show off product anymore).

Because you like one device more than the other doesn't mean that people that disagree with you are apple zombies.

    Just food for thought.

Most tech blogs agree that while android is absolutely exciting and promising, the support and current models just aren't there yet.

    :edit:

And while this was a direct response to you, it was more so to vent that people that have some tech knowledge and prefer some apple products are just dismissed as blind followers to the apple cult.

Sure some people like their products because they are "hip, trendy, and shiny", but to therefore condemn the brand as a whole as garbage is somewhat shortsighted.

I can agree with you on only some points... Hipsters where the ones who sat inline for a GENERAL RELEASE PRODUCT, brought it home and then told mommy and daddy to buy one for themselves. You may not be a hipster but the smell still lingers in my mind. I know tech people who are just now moving over to the iPhone to see what it's all about. I dont know everything thing there is to know about phones but i have no problem educating myself on on all facets of a subject just so i can speak properly on the subject. That being said my primary knowledge is on the G1 and how it stacks up against it's main competition.

The support and community wasn't there for the first month or so bro, i know cuz i stuck with it through the thick n thin. I even came on here and asked people what their opinions were, 85% of this site said iPhone, the rest was torn. News is that the Android Os is here to stay and the support is up to par. Actually compared to Sprint, i have many Sprint user friends and they curse the company out on the regular, G1 support rocks. Apple, to me, well, you are kinda playing in their stadium and are subject to all of their rules, regulations, and fees.. i dont like that.

I dont dismiss the iPhone, i dismiss the fakes.. My IT guy just switched to the iPhone and when he had we had a discussion why, i respect HIS, POV. I think the iPhones hardware is better, not by much but def better due to the extra space of not having a Qwerty keyboard. The Palm Pre has address the hardware issue & having the Qwerty keyboard, so it looks like it's back to a software and support race. The G1 has the same toggling ability between windows as the Palm Pre, the iPhone doesn'thave that feature. Meaning the iPhone is a one program phone, you have to leave the application and open another one to use it. The Palm Pre and G1 have a computers ability to (alt+tab) toggle between applications.

A jailbreaked iPhone and a Rooted G1 are better devices altogether that would also stop the majority of bickering going on in the regular domestic market...
