Did you just say that the shit they play on the radio today is the same as the shit that was out in the 90's?
Did you seriously just say that Drake is the same shit as Biggie, Pun and Wu-tang?
Nope. You're not reading well but I see the confusion.
With emphasis on the phrase "lyrical content" (referring to bitches, money, drugs etc) alotta people seem to be saying "Today's music isn't saying anything. Yesterday's music was real and had meaning." And so, keeping that in mind, lyrical subject matter still carries over and has the same premise (the aforementioned bitches, money and drugs). Drake = Biggie? No, not at all. It's the people telling me that "real hip hop" then had meaning when, from a general standpoint, the same story is being told in a different undertone and style altogether.
Really though I could care less about an entire culture supremely underlined in being cool and struggling to find meaning. I simply don't care but do see it for what it's worth.
I hope I've cleared up my original point.
What do you mean?Bruh, BOB is a radio hit lister, and he raps with much of the same lyrical content.
I was quoting someone who seemed to be glorifying BOB on the same level as Lupe and Wu Tang like BOB is here to save hip hop from the treacherous clutches of the evil record label execs! Dude is ultra corny, he's signed and all but I don't see him musically on the same level as the other two.
That was the general point I was trying to get across.

Every top rated comment for the videos posted are all "REAL HIP HOP FUCK MAINTSTREAM FUCK DRAKE! BIG PUN, BIGGIE, WU TANG IS WHERE IT'S AT"
Like really dog? You would've never known about any of those people if they weren't radio hitlisters. AND they rapped in the same lyrical content as the 'mainstream' you hate soo soo much for killing your precious. Gollum lookin ass bitches. Fuck outta here.
Oh and I saw one person say big ups to Lupe, Wu Tang and BOB. Double fuck outta here.
Fuck real hip hop in it's nine element ass.
A culture of outdated white people constantly complaining and being ulta megazord corny. Fuck you.

Waking up from a random dream of a chick I met a while back. Chica was married at 19 to some lameass fat mexican. Crazy, young n beautiful.
So anyway, in the dream I turned on the 'ol charm and she agreed to dinner but we were walking around in my old high school. As we held hands she told me "People are gonna start rumors about us." I said "Let them." to which she replied "Well, I better get a divorce."
And I awoke to this song playing in my head:
A sign from the gods!

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1662395/tv-on-the-radio-gerard-smith-dead-34.jhtml
TV On The Radio bassist Gerard Smith died Wednesday (April 20) at age 34 after his battle with lung cancer, the band announced on its website."We are very sad to announce the death of our beloved friend and bandmate, Gerard Smith, following a courageous fight against lung cancer," the band's statement reads. "Gerard passed away the morning of April 20th, 2011. We will miss him terribly."
Yo this seriously saddens me.
Maybe not a lot of you aren't into the band but for those who are you know how strong damn near all of their songs pushed the limits of new sound and genre re-classification. Something alot of the current music scene could learn from.
Homie was a definite center piece to the fold of their sound.
Heart goes out to the band and family.

Fucking Major Win.
Just found the entire 63 minute track to The Disintegration Loop I posted above.
Kicking back, falling asleep dreaming to this shit.... So dramatically droningly beautiful.
-
Didn't wanna thread it so I found this one and figured it was most relevant. Bumpz.
God I have been obsessed with this and literally have played it back to back at least 10 times.
It's not the kind of thing you can say often, but I think William Basinski's Disintegration Loops are a step toward that understanding-- the music itself is not so much composed as it is this force of nature, this inevitable decay of all things, from memory to physical matter, made manifest in music. During the summer of 2001, Basinski set about transferring a series of 20-year-old tape loops he'd had in storage to a digital file format, and was startled when this act of preservation began to devour the tapes he was saving. As they played, flakes of magnetic material were scraped away by the reader head, wiping out portions of the music and changing the character and sound of the loops as they progressed, the recording process playing an inadvertent witness to the destruction of Basinski's old music. The story/review in the "show more" section is pretty crazy and well put.
