get a remington 870 shotgun for home defense. what type of recreational shooting? high power long distance? hunting? you want semi auto? if you want something cheap and reliable, with cheap ammo, get something like an sks (somewhat reliable) or ak (perfectly reliable) ammo is cheap and it will eat that cheap ass wolf steel cased ammo like nothing. you could kill a deer with an sks, but i wouldnt use it for such. i want more precision. i wouldnt let price bother you. buy the best once and you'll only cry once. im not rich enough to be able to buy things twice. guns are like money in the bank that you can play with in your spare time. you cant blow up propane tanks with cash in the bank. guns always hold their value and many tend to go up in value, especially when our beloved legislators pass various laws banning certain features and firearms. i want to own large caliber weapons, simply because i want too. with it, i can shoot through junk engine blocks, shoot targets at insanely far distances. in fact the new guinness world record was set with a chey tac .408 with a group of 16" at 2300 and some odd yards. that is serious shooting. not to mention, a .50 cal, or .408 or .338 lap mag along with other various obscure big calibers, can ultimately be used for your survival. if the day ever comes where the US is invaded by foreign crazies or if the government is unleashed against americans, .50 bmg's and other high power weapons will be the patriots best friend. they are anti personnel rifles. can shoot insane distances. and can literally blow a person in 2 throwing limbs hundreds of feet. any thing to make it so you live one more day, i say, is something worth owning. one man with a .50 cal and a couple thousand rounds could hold back a whole lot of infantry men at an insane distance.

there is a used m82a1 on snipershide right now with cleaning kit, mags and goodies for like 7300. you can get the .50 single shot barretts for 3000 all day long at gun shows. while .50's are awesome, the barretts are only 4 minute guns. 2 moa gun, w/ 2 moa ammo. that is fine and good, but to use the gun and the round to its fullest, you must hand load. 4 moa at 2000 yards? thats like 80". that is a horrible group for precision. which is why im saving for a .408 chey tac. and getting the new rem. 700 p style .338 lapua mag. why does everyone on here like handguns and little sub machines? you need battle rifles people, battle rifles!

in reguards to john galt's post... when society emerges after a collapse i have little doubt gold and silver will once again rise to the top of the monies list. i sympathize with the idea that you cant eat gold but i reject it. im a saver by nature. i see myself as pretty prepared for most things. atleast money wise. im hardly rich, but i do have atleast 6 months back up cash. im pretty close to having a 20% down payment on a house and that is in addition to other things like IRAS, gold, silver, blah blah. i have atleast enough food for me and my wife for 6 months or 3 months if my family or a couple friends had to move in with me if SHTF. but this is the advantage of gold. it is a highly portable means of wealth. it always has been money and probably always will be seen as wealth. its so engrained in our culture. when something is the best you say it is the 'gold standard.' it has never lost purchasing power. in the 20's a 20$ gold peice (1 oz) would buy you a top of the line suit or a good quality handgun. and it still will today but you have to transfer the gold into cash to use it because those idiots in DC made using gold as currency illegal. but more realistically, gold is simply an inflation hedge. i wouldnt put all your money into it, after all during a recession or depression... cash is king. just make sure you have some on hand all the time. dont rule out bank runs... they are totally real possibilities.

gold is through the roof right now bro... i bought about 2 ounces back when it was about 650$ an ounce. yesterday gold was around 915$ an ounce. the last kruggerand i got a couple months ago, was 770$ an ounce. i think if you buy it now, buy on the dips, say wait till it falls back to like 880$. then the question comes forth... but is it going to dip. it probably will, but it might not stop or dip on its way to 1500$ an ounce. i really wish i would of backed the truck up at 650$ an ounce. eh, hindsight is 20/20. but i think silver is still relatively low. i only have 1 oz coins because im an idiot, but the safest and best way to invest in silver is in pre 1964 quarters and dimes. if you like ebay, go on there and search for 'junk silver' people always have lots. and plus being old US coins are still recognizable as regular money. i always read about these assholes who found 5 gallon buckets at relatives farms after they pass away full of coins from the 40's and 50's. they just found themselves a small fortune. as for buying the stuff.... apmex.com is a huge online gold dealer and the only real dealer with a shopping cart function. other than that, i usually use ebay to eliminate the small commissions on the coins from dealers.

not to back peddle, but there is a muscle milk secret. dont get it at GNC. they are like 10 bucks for a 4 pack there. if there is a safeway near you, go there. they are 6.99 for 4, but they have them on sale for buy one get one free. i buy them all when they are on sale, then go to the front the next day and get a rain check. im set for like 6 months in a couple trips and you save $$. i dont fool with the powder, it doesnt taste as good as the premixed chocolate.

definately getting off topic... but another thing to note is..... some neo conservatives get offended by the term. they believe it is synomous with "jew" when used by "traitor" conservatives. of course this stems from the old right america firster paleo cons or true conservatives who are against all foreign alliances, no exceptions even for israel.

allow me to break it down in simple easy to understand terms. a neo conservative is not a conservative. they are ex communists and 60s liberals who rode the reagan revolution into power. many neo cons do expouse social conservatism, (mainly to win the votes of the nations middle class conservative core) however many do not. one of the key differences between conservatives and neo conservatives is foreign policy. conservatives favor america first and an non interventionist foreign policy. neo cons believe in global democracy and a crusade to secure it. this is liberalism as embodied by Woodrow Wilson. why i call neo cons, liberals is simple. they believe in the federal state. conservatives do not. this is the basic core of each ideology. liberalism is belief in a strong central government and wanting citizens to rely on it. conservatives believe in small, decentralized government, and local control and individualism. decentralization, the principles espoused in the VA and KY resolutions penned by James Madison and Thomas Jefferson are held with as much esteem as the constitution and declaration. conservatives also believe in strict construction of the federal constitution. neo cons do not. they pretend they do, but they do not. it is against thier agenda of big government, deficits, and imperial foreign wars. neoconservatism is not conservatism. it is a form of liberalism.
