THE HO INDEX...

Ho Index =Total Number of Sex Points/Age:Time Coefficient...

Total Number of "Sex Points": The number of sex points approximates the number of sexual partners that a woman has had, by this method. Partners are divided into the categories of "one-night stands," "Fuck Buddies/ Friends with Benifits" and "Boyfriends/ Dating." A "one-night stand" is any sexual contact without the expectation of further sexual contact or romantic relations. Thus, a one time sexual encounter with a friend or aquintance is counted as a "one-night stand" rather than a "Fuck Buddie/ Friend with Benifits." The essence of this division is the fact that the encounter was not a thought out, planned sexual encounter between two people, but an irrational activity which the female party understood to be no more. This type of encounter is thus given a point value of one. The second category "Fuck Buddy/ Friend with Benifits," is consistent with any relationship that is understood to be solely romantic in a physical realm or an non-monogamous romantic relationship. That is any relationship where the too partners are in no way romantically involved except sexually, or any no committed sexual relationship. This distinction is thus given to friends who decide to pursue sustained sexual relations within the context of a friendship or romantic partners who make the choice not to be monogamous. This includes "open-relationships" or specified "friends with benifits type relationship." The point value of these relationships is equated by dividing the total number of months of sexual involvement by the number of months of acquantance. Through this calculation an open relationship in which the two people begin sexual relations less than a month into their acquantance is given a point value of one. The third type of sexual encounter is the "Boyfriend/ Dating" type, this is any relationship in which the partners are specifically committed to one another. A woman in a relationship where she is committed to an individual man is in a "boyfriend/ dating" relationship whether or not the man is likewise committed. That is to say that a woman who is monogamous with a partner is in this type of relationship whether or not her partner is as well. These encounters are long-term as well as short-term relationships. These relationships are given a point value of one divided by the number of weeks in the relationship before they became sexually active. This would give a relationship which was consumated in one week or less a value of one.

Special Cases:

1. A one-time sexual encounter between two friends or acquantances, without the expectation of further sexual relations or an ensuing romantic relationship is defined as a "one-night stand." The expectation of a further relationship is defined by the woman, in such circumstances the encounter falls into whichever category the woman expected following the encounter.

2: The value of "Friends with Benifits" who decide at a later date to stop their sexual relations but continue with a friendship are calculated as if the friendship ended after the sexual relationships. That is that the total number of months of the sexual relations are divided by, the total number of months of friendship before the relations were discontinued.

3. Cheating is calculated in the same way as a "regular" encounter, but the total point value is doubled. Cheating is any sexual encounter outside of a explicitly monogomus relationship.

4. Any sexual relations outside of an open relationship, or friendship with benifits, ar calculated simultaneously with said relationship.

Age:Time Coefficient:

The "Age:Time Coefficient" is used to simultaneously account for the age at which a woman lost her virignity and the number of years she has been sexually active. By this means a woman who became sexually active early, and has been sexual active for a short period will have a higher index than a woman who has been sexually active for a long time and started later, supposing they have the same Total point index. The calculation of the Age:Time Coefficient is simply the womans age divided by the age at which she had her first sexual encounter.

THE HO INDEX: The Ho index is used as a measure of sexual promiscuity of women as opposed to an average social measure. The indexes can be charted and an individual index can be compared to the larger scale. This can be compared with age group structure as well as other social variables. The index is calculated is by Total Number of Sex Points, as calculated above, divided by the Age:Time Coefficient, also calculated above. In conclusion the Ho Index is an attempt to quantify the social characteristics of promiscuity and compare women. In the end, promiscuity is often a subjective characteristic and thus an objective measure such as this is not a perfect approximation. In the end, the true measure is in the mind of the individual who is taking the actions, but a measure such as this is a good start when these factors are unavailable. The Index takes sex to be anything considered by the parties involved to constitute sex. In some cases this may be "normal sexual intercourse," in others it may be other sexual activity. Often this distinction is culturally defined. And any promiscuity index must so be taken in a cultural context.

Example:

A woman has had five sexual partners, one boyfriend, one "friend with benifits" and two "one-night stands."Supposing that she dated her boyfriend for a month previous to their first sexual encounter, the point value of this encounter is 1/4.(1 divided by 4 weeks) If she knew her friend with benifits before they began sex for 2 months and they continued a sexual relationship for 2 months, the point value would be 1/2. (2 months of seuxal relations/ 4 months of friendship.) Her two "one-night stands" count as two points. Supposing that she had her first sexual encounter at age 16 and was currently 18, the Age:Time Coefficient would be 16/18 (.88...). Her Ho Index would be 2.95, or approximately three.
