You paint a lot of metal. What do you think of the North American freight scene right now versus back when you started in the 90s?

I'd say it has grown a lot in the last thirteen years. I'm not a hater, but it's just out of hand now. There are so many no talent having, internet biting, and yard disrespecting retards everywhere now, not just in my hometown of Sacramento, California, but all across the nation. Back when I first started hitting freights, we would go to a yard or lay-up or whatever, find the best looking boxcar or hopper to paint and hook that train up. My crew and I would never go over anyone that was respected or had a half decent panel. Back then you didn't have to go over anyone because Seventy five percent of the freights in the spot were clean. Back then it seemed like you had to be decent to even get on freights, all the toys painted chill walls and their backyards, now their chill walls and backyards are freights. Now it's like this: walk into the yard, take a look at all the trains that are in paintable areas, and you might get lucky to find one out of thirty trains has not been painted. Ninety five percent of trains are always painted in my spots, and almost every time, over half of them are whack. These days, Good pieces get gone over by whack pieces. Everyone wants to paint freights now. It isn’t really sacred or special anymore. My love for freights is pretty killed. I just paint freights out of boredom these days.

It seems that in order to paint freight trains these days you have to go really big otherwise people will just go over you. What do you think will happen when all the freight trains have huge pieces on them? Do you think people will start doing more whole cars, and where do you see the cycle ending?

I hope it never comes to not only every train being painted but every train being painted really big. That might make freights a lot hotter than they already are. Plus it will make it harder to notice good graffiti because you'll just see big rolling blobs of shit everywhere. There hasn't really ever been a big boost in wholecars. There are the heads that do them; one, two, twenty times a year like yeti and kem5 and there are the heads that will never do them because they can't do them in their spots, or they're just not into trying something that hard. Wholecars are a lot of work, I've done about five and I like to sleep the whole next day. I hope the cycle of wanting to go as big as possible dies out one day because I really don't want to see big blobs of shit graffiti rolling all over.

Why do you think it is that everyone is starting out by painting trains before they are even good?

Everyone wants their graffiti to travel & not get buffed. Why not hit the freights?

I noticed that you don’t do a lot of gallery exhibitions. Is it just not your thing or are you planning on getting more into that in the future.

I'd like too, I've had a couple pieces hang at a few art shows here and there. I've sold some HO scale trains on eBay in the past. Shot out to whoever has bought any of my graff stuff. Good lookin’ out!

You started writing graffiti in Sacramento, where do you call home now?

I have family and friends up and down the entire west coast, I see them all pretty often. I like to travel a lot so I guess you could say I call the entire west coast home, from San Diego to Seattle. I feel at home.

Would you say there is more love for graffiti in those places you stay compared to your hometown of Sacramento?

I'm starting to see more graffiti commissioned murals around Sac these days so I guess there is some kind of love for it in Sac. The city is starting to see the art aspect of graffiti, especially with second Saturdays and all the art shows. Maybe I'm wrong but graffiti doesn't seem like a big problem in Sacramento at all, at least around downtown. The suburbs are a total different story.

What’s different about the suburbs of Sacramento?

I'm not around the suburbs of Sacramento very much but nobody likes or wants graffiti around. We used to get sweated by pigs around Citrus Heights a lot back in the 90's.

You’re one of the founders of TBK, your main crew. Tell us how the crew started and a little history about it.

TBK started around 1996-97 by Grose from San Juan high school. I went to a different school that was across town but had summer school at San Juan right around when TBK was started, Grose put me down. I got down and was the only one really going out bombing and putting it up until we put some other heads in like Arys, Komy, Biter, Trouble, Metal, Foset & Borg. After that, we dropped some weaker members and just got bigger & better. We are one of the longest running crews in Sac that you still see up on the regular. We are all close friends. I wish Grose was still on the scene with us.

What happened to Grose?

He just decided to live his life without his best friends I guess.

Who are some of your major artistic influences? People that really inspire you and helped to motivate you and keep you as active as you are to this day?

I'm influenced by old school cats that I used to look at when I first started: BFK, RTM, Porn, Jones, Kick, Buds, King157, Jero, Kaws, Nace. All them dudes stood out on freights in the 90's with original styles. That's what I'm trying to do I guess.

Are you still bombing or are you just into freights right now?

I still get up here and there. I like bombing in the winter more but I will get up with tags all year round.

What do you think about all the people who completely changed up their style when the Euro, toy-on-purpose, slash early New York subway stylized art made its popular splash a few years ago?

I don't really think about it at all. There are so many different styles of graffiti these days. I either like it or don't like it. Some of that toy-on-purpose shit is weak though. I just do my own thing. If I can like my piece every time; then I feel good about myself.

Do you plan on painting graffiti your whole life?

As long as I can I guess.

Last words?

Shots to all the crews I'm in. I'm one of the newest members of DTCKYT. I'm glad to be a part of that movement. Shots to DIAR! He is the strongest dude I've ever known. I got you for life. My boy Vegas just got out the pen a couple months ago, let’s stay positive and keep it moving bro. Shots to Anomie1. To my girl and my kid, I love you both so much. Thank you for making me a more positive and responsible person. Rest in peace Dad, Randy Smurf and Jamay, I love you guys. Peace.
