Recommended Posts

hey, i was wondering if there was a site where you can see all types of train cars and get explainations on them. it seems liek where im from in lower ohio im only seeing the same fucking cars all the time, i see a chessie every now and then but other than that no really exclusive cars. i want to see some reefers you know but the only one running down here to my knowledge is the juice train. basically i dont know shit about train cars and which is which and where they run and i'd like to know. thanks.

Type "National Railway Historical Society" into your browser. That ought to get you about 50 good leads. If that doesn't work out, try typing in "Railroad car designations."

A wikipedia search for "rail car" brings you information on everything from RDCs and Doodlebugs to control cars, stock cars and container well cars.

Here's info on reefers, boxcars, tankers, stock cars, hoppers, autoracks and more.

And if you're an uber railfan, check out some old school pics of trains from the 19th century here:

For anything else, the Google is your friend.
