    Friends of our family have an escape house kinda where you're going. There's tons of crazy animals and super-dense vegetation. We were driving through the forest and came across some armed people camped out in a clearing. My cousin said they were a rogue milita group, def link up with people from the area don't go it alone. Over all everyone is pretty chill but in certain area's it can get hectic if your a foreigner .

    I'm staying at a fieldsite that has

    field guides/ staff, so hopefully their cool.

    i know they'll reimburse me later, i just gotta get the funds for now.

     

    I do feel lucky, it's just kinda wild.

    esp. to know that i'll be coming back for a whole year to get doctoral

    work done.

    craziness.

     

    the tiger is awfully cute, i'm just scared it'll eat me.

    probably not too much of a risk, tho. their

    scared of humans given the rate of poaching.

     

    i might go to bali when i'm in indonesia for the whole year,

    maybe as a getaway.

    we'll see.

     

    as for cigarettes, one of my teachers paid informants in indo with blocks of

    salt since they lived in the mountains and didn't have access to any.

     

    crazy the things we take for granted.

    yes, that is right.

    anyone have any suggestions for cheap airfare?

    It shall be covered by grant $$ when i get

    back, but i need to book asap.

    i'll be flying from chicago to jakarta.

     

    has anyone been to sumatra?

    I will be in the south, not toooo far from jakarta

    but in some of the most isolated rainforest in

    the region, in between Bengkulu and Bakauheni.

     

    Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park.

    did i mention i'll be going in the

    forest all hours of the night

    to observe some primates?

     

    o, and there's endangered tigers, elephants, and rhinos in this

    area.

     

    I am absolutely insane.

    but it should be very interesting.

    I'm going with my advisor, another student, and some field guides

    so we don't walk in circles.

     

    what i'm out to look for:
