111 Minna Gallery: Collabo Tour 07.

Artists: Sever, Revok, Ewok, Yes 2, Bates, Esteme, Persue, Snow, Serch, Totem 2, Kacao 77, Aroe, Rime.

Comment: Overall this is an interesting show of work featuring a number of famous graffiti artists from The Exchange and Seventh Letter Crew. The show is mostly photographs of work done in public spaces, but includes original work as well. It's not as presentable as it could be due to the fact that it's temporarily installed over all the art from the Fecal Face show, and I'm a little disappointed that no female graffiti artists are represented. Nonetheless, it's appealing to see, and the best part of all is a huge graffiti mural on a Minna Street wall that's been painted by the participating artists. Even though the show is no longer up, the mural is a new permament fixture on the street, and it's pretty awesome.

WHO'S DOWN TO COLLABO!?

The inspiration of Pacific Art Collective's COLLABO Tour featuring THE EXCHANGE & THE SEVENTH LETTER graffiti projects is to educate, expose and encourage collaborative arts as a means of partnership and enrichment for the lives of our community.

COLLABO exhibits individual and collaborative artwork from 13 World Famous, International members of the THE EXCHANGE & THE SEVENTH LETTER Crew. Many of these artists have never met face to face, so all of this will be happening for the first time ever!

During each show, all 13 Artists will paint live collaborative murals and smaller pieces to be sold and/or auctioned during the event.

EXCHANGE ARTISTS

SEVER (LA), REVOK (LA), EWOK (LA), YES 2 (NYC), BATES (Copenhagen), ESTEME (Philadelphia), PERSUE (San Diego), SNOW (New Jersey), SERCH (Holland), TOTEM 2 (Atlanta), KACAO 77 (Berlin), AROE (UK), RIME (LA).

COLLABO also features live performances from International and local music acts + Poets from HBO's DEF JAM + Hoppin Dj's & Turntablists.

The artists of THE EXCHANGE & THE SEVENTH LETTER will also paint several large outdoor murals to promote the opening of the shows.

SF WEEKLY

"Collabo Tour 07"

Public Art

When buying real estate, location is everything. The same goes for when you're

defacing real estate. When a hooligan selects a wall to assault, attributes such

as sightlines, daringness, and the

proximity of the local police department are carefully considered. Yet all too

often those details are lost when a slumming curator gives a graffiti artist the

golden tap on the shoulder, requesting

his presence in a gallery posthaste. This weekend, however, the Collabo Tour 07

is ushering graffiti not only onto the walls of 111 Minna, but also into the

distraught alley next to the gallery. As

anyone who's entered the venue through a creeping line knows, the alley is a

fine choice -- for graffiti, of course, or for passing out drunk or taking a

piss, but not for much else. For today's

Outdoor Block Party, the Collabo crew will be presumably erecting wood or some

such for live, collaborative painting (wouldn’t want art to get in the way of

city-approved grime) from an impressive

lineup of international artists. Contributors include Sever, Revok, Ewok, Yes 2,

Bates, Esteme, Persue, Snow, Rime, Search, Totem 2, Kacao 77, and Aroe. If any

of those names strike a chord -- or,

better yet, if you’ve actually untangled one of them during your graffiti

sojourns in questionable neighborhoods -- have a Pabst! (Pabst being the

official sponsor of the Collabo Tour. At least they

didn't get Scion.)

An opening reception starts at 8 p.m. on Aug. 18. The block party (with music by

Language Arts Crew, Whiskey Avengers, and DJ Duserock) starts Aug. 19 at 2. 111

Minna Gallery, 111 Minna (at Second

St.) , San Francisco
