Win $500 at the 5th Annual City Xpressionz Festival

The City Xpressionz festival is seeking submissions from graffiti writers and visual artists to create productions live during the 5th annual City Xpressionz festival in Cleveland, Ohio, taking place on Saturday, August 26th.

 

Five writers/artists will be selected to design and execute productions, including character work, lettering, and/or stenciling on 8'x12' wooden canvases in an urban park on Cleveland's west side. Artists/writers may work alone or as part of a crew. Each artist/crew will be competing for a $500 cash prize. Artists/writers of all ages are eligible to compete.

 

To be eligible for consideration in this competition, interested artists/writers must submit the following by August 1st:

• At least 4 but no more than 10 images of artwork. Artwork MUST be either sketchbood images or pictures of work in which its location cannot be identified from the photograph. Color images are strongly recommended.
  
• A first name.
  
• A valid email address.
  

 

Artwork must arrive at Cleveland Public Art by Tuesday, August 1st, at 5:00 pm. Submissions can either be sent digitally as JPEG or GIF images to graffiti at clevelandpublicart dot org (make your subject line City Xpressionz Competition) or by mail to Cleveland Public Art, 1951 West 26th Street #101, Cleveland, OH 44113. Submissions must be received by August 1st, not postmarked by that date. Artwork delivered in person is also acceptable.

 

After all submissions are reviewed by a selection panel made up of local hip-hop and art community representatives, Cleveland Public Art will notify all artists of the decisions via email on Thursday, August 10th. Winners who do not respond to the email by Tuesday, August 15th will forfeit their space in the competition.

 

The five selected artists/writers will compete for $500 on Saturday, August 26th, at the City Xpressionz festival. They will have from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm to complete their productions, which will be judged by a popular vote from the crowd. All artists/writers will need to bring their own paint, caps, and respirators.

 

City Xpressionz celebrates the diversity of urban art forms and the artists who create them. The festival recognizes hip-hop music and dance, graffiti, and other underground art forms as the works that shape a city's artistic voice. Cleveland Public Art will make every effort to ensure a fair, unbiased competition and to protect the privacy of all artists/writers who submit.

 

Artists/writers who are not selected are encouraged to participate in City Xpressionz either by painting a smaller canvas space or by voting for their favorite production. We ask that all participants respect the community, private property, and the spirit of City Xpressionz. Please refrain from using profanity in your work.
