Haha, I don't see how you can make Detroit "hot" by doing burners in the street. I think there's a LOT more serious issues for the city to deal with before worrying about graffiti. It's not like the MSK guys are there just tagging and doing throw ups... I would say that a majority of people who know nothing about graffiti would prefer to see the stuff they are doing rather than a blank abandoned structure. It actually shows some signs of life...
In any case, every city you go to, there's the same debate about outta towners... i.e. BTM in NYC, etc...
