    and GET FIREFOX

does anyone else have problems with firefox and yahoo mail? I am still experiencing some of the same issues with having to upload my information (pass, username) more than once and the format yahoo uses looking a bit messed up.

anyway, i have been really busy mainter so i haven't gotten back to you about you're suggestion, i'm thinking about it, but am a little concerned about giving anybody, let alone someone with you're expertise, my computer. i would have to say there would have to be something in it for me other than postage, sorry if that doesn't work. ok, and what would you do with it anyway?

  2. time for a computer retirement party. . .so much for you, you once new piece of shit, Presario 5304 Cyrix686MX, with 60MB mem, 4GB hard disk, 15" bulk monitor, broke CD burner, cdROM, floppy drive, i'll do you the justice of massive delete and defrag, before i relegate you to the needy, or possibly my parents.

  3. its not an AMD equivalent AMD is on its own intel just buys other company emploeyes intel sucks

but yeah its good for major gaming it will provide years of upgrades in the computer world so if he gots the money now might as well buy it

my problem is that i won't be able to afford another computer or monitor for another six years so i went with the dell which comes with a 19" LCD monitor which i upgraded to ultrasharp, i got the videocard that casek told me i didn't need (i think, now that's another issue, i wish they would make detailed specifications available on their site about what they put into these machines), extra memory and firewire too, all for about 900 including shipping. it's might not be half the computer, but i won't be buying another for another five years anyhow, so i was really being impractical trying to buy a fancy mobo which allows upgrading because in five years when i'm ready to upgrade, it will be time to re-up anyhow.

  4. yeah, i upped some of the options so it would work out better for gaming, that they threw in the monitor, that clinched it for me it will be nice to get rid of this small and hulking crt. like cowboy says though, there is a crapload of stuff installed that i'm going to want to delete so definately look forward to helping me out on that, software not being one of my strongpoints.

  5. Step 1: Choose a Processor

AMD Athlon 64 FX55 San Diego 1GHz HT Socket 939 Processor Model ADAFX55BNBOX$660 (normally 810, saved 150 on combo with mobo)

Step 2: Choose a Graphics Card

    ATI All-In-Wonder 2006 Edition 256MB DDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 Video Card $179

    Step 3: Choose a Motherboard

MSI K8N Diamond Plus Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI X16 ATX AMD Motherboard $179

    Step 4: Choose Memory

Patriot Signature Series 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model $68

Step 5: Choose a Hard Drive

We need lots of hard drive space for storing our games, videos, photos and music files. One of the best deals I’ve found is the Maxtor DiamondMax 10 6L300S0 – it gives you a whopping 300 GB. What’s more, its SATA enabled too. This goes for $129.99 at Newegg.com (an unbelievable price, by the way).

    Step 6: Choose a Case

    Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-550 ATX12V 550W Power Supply $83.99

COOLER MASTER Centurion 532 RC-532-SKN1 Black Aluminum bezel, SECC chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case$45

Step 7: Choose a DVD Drive

Last step is to choose a DVD drive. I’d reckon that a good DVD drive is the NEC ND-3520A drive. It’s not a writer – only a DVD-ROM. This unit sells at around $42.

Well that comes in around 1500 after 30 in shipping and minus the mail in rebates($50) plus a cooling fan, what do you think, is this going to work, or am i going to have lots of (unsolvable) problems, is this too much computer for my needs, and does the decrease in graphics card hurt the gaming capabilities of the system?

  6. lots more questions here. i'm about to shell out some dollars and have a few points of confusion, so i'm thinking this weekend isn't going to be the one. first, i'm going to buy a mobo with a raid controller for the option, but is it worth it to buy another hard disk as well, and if so what kind, sata 3.0 any good, or should i buy a graphics card with lots of memory so i can play videogames, which would be cool? also there are so many ram's out there, i'm taking y'alls advice and going amd, so that rules out DDR2, what is dual channel, and what is un-whatevered, and are these things important? also are there any pc build tutorials, because it's been awhile? are all the connectors included generally with the case, and mobo, or is there some stuff i'm going to have to buy. i'm thinking this thermal paste shit is going to be necessary for the processor, but what else has changed from ten years ago, is there anything else you can see me getting in trouble with, i'm liking those fast liquid cooled processors, are they worth the trouble?

  7. man, that vista news sucks. i need a new computer, well want one anyway. have narrowed it down to the following three routes, build one, have done this before, but gets expensive before everything is installed medium of the line ($139 for sp2, same for tiger OS). or should i buy a prepackaged system on sale, there is always room for comprimise, right? if i'm comprimising, why don't i just keep the computer i have in this room and go to wal-mart and get that compaq laptop with wireless. i just think laptops are a waste on me though, i don't use the computer away from home yet, so i'd rather have the speed and somewhat forward compatibility that comes with a nice open architecture with lots of slots.

so here is my question what is the shit for prepackaged computer motherboards, you know, what makers are giving away the goodstuff prepacked?

  8. yeah, i thought so, i'm due for a new system soon (overdue really), o and i was waiting on that new microsoft live or whatever, but not so sure now that i've heard the talk on here about how much it should suck, i'll probably get a xp sp2, right, and good reminder to update the firmware on the linksys. . .

new question, if you're installing something in windows and you have all those processes running (in the background, system tray, not the taskbar), do you all really take the time to shut them all down?

so do you have peer gaurdian on with http blocking enabled?

yes. i saw something in this thread where it says to turn that feature off. i'm pretty much maxing out my computer running spybot and pg right now, so i don't have a firewall, unless the router has one set up which i haven't really messed with. and no i don't have sp2, as i said before i don't like paying for software, and the learning curve on linux is too steep (i.e. I can't read east asian/indian translated english very well and have no friends that have this), i did manage to get freeBSD set up once on another machine, but couldn't do much beyond conqueror. this is me, should i cut my losses and give up now or is there something that can be done?

  10. I reinstalled Firefox, but still experiencing the same problem, it's kinda like when Peer Guardian recognizes a site as blocked sometimes, sometimes it takes three clicks, sometimes I have to open another tab, sometimes that doesn't work, I'm thinking I should check out the ISP I recently switched to? Thanks in advance tech team.

  11. yes, lord casek, the microsoft usb drives. allow 6-8 weeks for delivery. i'm now at three and counting, and i've told a few people about it too, maybe we can hurt them for all the pain they've caused us over the years.

my question today is this: Firefox often won't direct me to a website on the first try, the try again screen comes up and i have to click it to try again, it's not fun. i've changed alot of software lately and recently upgraded firefox as well so I'm not sure what the cause is, does anyone have any ideas for me, reinstall Firefox?

and pertaining to the ongoing hypothetical discussion here, I got one for you to chew on, you guys remember Moore's Law, that engineers and scientists double processing power for the pc every 18 months supposedly valid for the past thirty years and ten more years to come, how come there has been such a slowdown in processing speed lately. it's only about 10 times or less than what it was 7 years ago. do you think it's deliberate on the behalf of the coorporation?

  12. I got two free usb drives. I've enjoyed this thread immensely, keep up the good work.

Any suggestions for low tech users who just want the internet for ripping music and video, and text based sites. I generally pass on new free programs and new hardware, so it would be good to know what is essential for me and my pentium III? I'll take my question off-line.
