    SOUL POSITION (philadelphia & cleveland / rhymesayers / www.rjd2site.com)
FEATURING RJD2 and BLUEPRINT. This unlikely duo, which matches low-profile, self-producing lyricist Blueprint with official Ohio soul machine/produce whiz kid extraordinaire RJD2, has recorded one the underground's best bets as far as albums are concerned this year. Those unfamiliar with Blueprint's previous work with acts like Illogic and Aesop Rock may be taken aback by his ability to exude unusual confidence, charisma and emotionally powerful delivery in conjunction with his nasal voice and sharp, educated pronunciation. RJD2 typically plays the background when laying down beats for MCs, trusting traditionalism over his obvious strength in experimentation, but with Soul Position he makes several advances to match Blueprint's radicalism. From trickle-down skank blaxploitation recoils to the stuttered orchestral horror film crescendo, subtle piano, and gorgeous panning electric guitars. RJ manages to dominate independent beatmaking. Even his simpler offerings are tastefully executed: they not only serve their purpose of enhancing lyrical focus, but also expose the more colorful tracks on the album. It's obvious that this amalgam between one of the most promising rappers in the underground and the most in-demand producer in the industry is a winning combination. Fatbeats / Rhymesayers Records.

ILLOGIC and DJ PRZM (cleveland / weightless recordings / www.weightless.net)
One of the most slept on MCs in the business. A former ORPHANAGE member (along with Slug/Atmosphere, Eyedea, Aesop Rock and Blueprint) ILLOGIC has been labeled by Slug as "his hero" A frequent guest and collaborator with the Mhz, Def Jux and Anticon crews. Weightless Recordings
