Laws increasing the penalties for graffiti vandals passed Parliament tonight.
The laws double the penalties for anyone caught carrying out graffiti vandalism to a maximum two years jail and a fine of $24,000.
The legislation also creates a new criminal offence for retailers who sell graffiti implements to children. They face fines of up to $12,000.
The new laws are consistent with the legislation in other jurisdictions which contain offences for persons who sell spray paint to minors.
