I was an anarchist in the 1960's and 1970's. I held on to those ideas for a long time before I finally realized that I just did not believe that we anarchists were right, and knew in my heart that there is a big difference between "liberty" and "license."
"Liberty" means I have the ability to jungle up, but also the obligation to clean up the camp, not break a bunch of laws, and to behave like a civilized human being. Libertarians feel a sense of connectedness and responsibility towards the rest of the world.
"License" means that I am an immature, selfish, self-centered slob with a huge sense of entitlement, who thinks that I can behave any way I please regardless of the harm it does to the world and the people around me. People like this think the entire world is their personal toilet and trash dump.
Kabar, I think you are mistaken on what the idea of anarchism actually entails. I count myself as not only an anarchist, but a wobblie (since 2003), and more importantly, a participating member of the working class. It is particularly irritating to me when folks associate anarchism with the type of self-centered indulgence you are talking about. I know plenty of kids who use anarchism as an excuse to justify their pathetic sense of entitlement, and that really pisses me off. Anarchism is dependent on community, cooperation, and self-accountability...essentially everything you are talking about in your post. I can respect you not agreeing with the particulars of it, but don't tell me anarchism is "license", and don't tell me that all these scumfucks are anarchists. It's disrespectful to those who are actually trying to build a functioning community, and misleading to those who might want to know more about it.

I rode through Houston, and it was no good. Had a Aryan Brother, or so he claimed, ask to "sleep" with me under a bridge. I respectfully declined, and he left and I never seen him again.
THIRD WARD HOUSE ALL DAY!! I love Houston. I met some great people there.

I steal as much as possible, even when I don't need to, and I advise everyone to do the same. I'm not talking about theft from individuals, but theft from the government and theft from corporate entities are justifiable actions in my book. Both these structures are fighting tooth and nail to exploit you every single day you wake up. Hell, look at the new inheritance tax laws, they're even trying to exploit you when you're dead! Fuck em, fuck every last one of em.

What I mainly need to know is two things-
-Can I catch out of Roseville then go all the way to Seattle directly? I've heard that the easiest way to get to Seattle is to head to SLC, then catch the train that heads northwest by way of Idaho...it sounds scenic but it's a little out of my way.
-How easy is it to scam the commuter rail between Seattle and PDX?
I'm not dead set on riding trains, but I'm probably going to have a bike with me so hitching won't be as easy.
This is about as easy as it gets man, don't be fucking around with utah, that's a massive detour for no good reason. Go trot out to Roseville, bag yourself the Hinkle train. Lots of empty lumber, lots of empty canadian grainers, pretty hard to miss. Usually pulls out a little after midnight. It'll end up hauling all the way into canada via hinkle and spokane, so get off in portland. Hopping to seattle from pdx is easy as hell, or, take the extremely cheap CAP bus to olympia and hitch from there. That's what I do anyways.
and I'm fairly sure there's a straight shot to seattle, but it comes out of the port of oakland and only on sunday evenings, so time that shit. I've caught it before out of oakland, but jumped off in roseville to continue east.

Penn-Mary all day though!

Well, you can thank the crowd of dumbasses that went through there after deathfest last year, that's what did it!
-
del rio blues. again. gotta heart the ins.
-
are you kidding me? you don't think bulls don't realize people use a ccg or trace numbers or skedz or whatever, those motherfuckers do that same job every single day, for years and years, they know more about tramping then most tramps do.

DESTINTION>>>>>Its all about a magic phone number..........That I wouldnt post on here for a million bucks......
I would! The magic phone number is anything any idiot can get with a simple google search.
anyways, I'm finally leaving alabama tomorrow, headed to dfw area, and then to colton. then who knows. shit happens!
-
yea i def won't defend it or make excuses for myself, it's a dumb move all round.
-
I wont lie, I've gotten on many, many trains drunk before. A couple I was blacked out, which nearly ended in severed limbs both times.
-
i'm pretty big on the whole "sink or swim" policy. get out there, on your own or with a mentor, just make it happen. you'll learn through experience. it's not always pleasant and it's rarely easy, but you won't learn shit about tramp life from the internet.

;7893085']Anyone have info on the current status of the Feather River Route? I've heard that it's been shut down' date=' I've heard that it's still running, small sections have been abandoned, there's a new route through Donner Pass or something or other. Nothing solid! Anyone ridden it recently? Any Cali heads with info? Feel free to pm - and thanks![/quote']
Last year the tunnels over donner pass got notched out, so all the doublestack traffic that was using feather river is now going straight over sparks-roseville. it hasn't been shut down, just downgraded. Junk is still running that route, much more infrequently, but you'd be hard pressed to find any hotshots going that way anymore.

As some of you may know, a squat in new orleans burned to the ground a few nights ago, killing 8 people and two dogs. My road dog nikki was one of them, a guy named sammy i knew only slightly, and a dude going by john or "carwash" Some of the other victims have been id'd since then.

my advice...
dont do it.
I'm back in the South, Meridian Mississippi to be exact. I gotta say, contrary to what folks alway tell you, I've always liked it down here. You earn you're miles in the deep south, thins the oogs out.
-
That's just an overgeneralized statement because you happened to get popped there. Some places you go to jail, others you don't. I got pulled off in Roanoke 3 or 4 years ago and got a warning.

In Schenectady, people say the catch out is Mohawk Yards. Both Canadian Pacific (CP) and GTI runs trains out of Mohawk. The yard is actually in the suburb of Scotia, northwest of downtown Schenectady, I think. One might find the intersection of Freeman's Bridge and Maple Avenue, near a Sunoco gas station, then go about five miles northeast on Maple, to the Animal Protection Foundation, and walk to one's right, into the south end of Mohawk. ONE MIGHT BE AWARE THAT THERE ARE RAILFANS WHO WILL RAT YOU OUT TO THE BULL, so one might want to be careful. One could probably take a camera and go down to the yard office to get a look around by pretending to be a foamer. Mohawk has trains eastbound to East Deerfield, MA and west to Albany and Buffalo.
[/i]
Not to be a stickler, but it's a "Stewarts" convenience store, and it's less than half a mile to the animal shelter where the throat of the yard is, nowhere close to five.
I like Schenectady, and I like this spot, so please DON"T FUCK IT UP! The people are super nice there, I've only ever met laid back rail fans, and it's really dead dead dead in that yard most of the time. Last time I was there, GTI was all running with NS power in the consists, so don't get confused, I think NS has actually merged GTI. If they have, it's all good because that line through to Portland Maine is still running roughly the same schedule, just different identity.
I highly advise against walking into the south end of that yard if you're trying to get to Binghampton or points west, there are much better options available. PM me for info.
KaBars right though, Selkirk is not to be taken lightly, I went to jail there back in June of 09, no warning, nothing, straight to jail. And it is very, VERY, busy. On the plus side, there's junk heading just about everywhere in the northeast and midwest there as well.

someone finally said it. fuck a damn boxcar. i'd rather hitchhike. being in 55 gallon drum, pushed downhill by a gang of sledgehammers doesn't make for the best sleep, even with a half gallon of whiskey.
I take it you don't ride in winter much?

i'll be in nola for haloween, in tucson now, so definitely got plenty of time.
