  1. nomak: you been tryin to get screen printing equipment too!? haha, get at me about that. i'd be down to throw down on that with you. i been tryin to get my hands on some equipment myself. i'll IM you next time i see you on.

seeking and joker: i agree with what you are both saying about selling things painted on cardboard. there is no denying that your right. about your comments on white people too, lol. but anyways, like i said before, thats the reason i havent really tried to pursue a career in art; just cuz im hardheaded like nomak said and believe "art is art, not material or media"

  2. verbal kint, if you dont mind me asking, can you elaborate on what exactly it is you use for a "print". im trying to get into that aspect of art. do you use screen printing materials? i actually have sumbody willing to make custom shirts for me for 6 bucks a piece if i send him in the designs with no more than 4 colors and no fades in them. i've used screen printing equipment before, but i dont really have access to any as of right now. i've thought about getting some tho

thats one of the few intelligent things i've heard you say. i couldn't agree more. as far as selling art though, that sadly doesn't apply. there is a quote i like alot "art has its best moments when it forgets its very name" - jean dubuffet. my issue is i just flat out dont like asking people for money for anything. i really dont. even when they owe me money. (by the way nomak you never did pay me back for them two old-E forties i bought that one nite we went to ryans a year ago ;) ) but for real tho. this is basically the reason i do art as a hobby, and dont try to pursue a career in it, i dont want to "sell myself" to a buncha stupid cracka ass crackas! wait fuck im white too! :yuck: damn i forgot! lol @ seekings comment. what is sad is that what he said is true in so many cases......... :haha:

those ges canvases are fucking hot...and deceipt i like that one, i definatly like the blue, i think it fits in there

you are wrong, i hope you know that....

    [/b]

lol, ya dude your not supposed to agree with me. that is breaking the sequence. see your supposed to say it sucks and then im supposed to reply with a long drawn out response defending why i did it the way i did.

but for real tho i think the blue fits just fine. it just looks retarded following those dope ass ges canvases

    PAPER CHASE!

actually this whole thread is in the wrong forum. you dont put "throw ups" in your sketch book. i mean you do come up with them in your sketch book, but isn't the purpose of a "throw up" to "throw it up" as many spots as you can? i guess maybe if ur showing pics of postal stickers that could count

your missing some contrast. Right now all your shapes are in the same value range. Maybe add some highlights. I wouldn't suggest putting a white tag in the bottom, unless you have white somewere else on the "painting" ( is that digital or hand done?)

i still havent done anything else to it, worried i'll fuck it up, if i were to put my name to the bottom i'd actually do it in some shade of gray or something cuz ya white wouldn't look right only in the corner and all. its acrylics (obviously hand done). but ya i definately agree it is missing contrast, that is EXACTLY what it is missing, i just dont know wut to do to it without fuckin it up. so im leaving it alone right now

  7. try not putting the piece smack in the middle of the canvas. get wut i mean? like turn it upright and have the piece at the bottom and either do fades or rectangles or drips or wutever coming down from the top or something of that nature................ah fuck it nevermind

your time is precious, make it count! unless u want a body of work, that wen looked back on is full of rush jobs that u know in your heart u came up short on

kinda figured sumbody was gonna comment about that. thats the only one i would say i really rushed. cuz like i said i had started sumthing else on that canvas before and it just straight up wasn't coming out right, and a couple days later i got bored one nite and just started messing around with a white-out marker on it. and then just recovered the rest of the canvas with the black. im not one to normally rush things, although im also not the most patient person at the time. but your right i do sumtimes catch myself using the "i did it at nite" or "i was in a rush" excuse every once in a while. i'd say its more because im just not organized. im workin on that tho. that last red one i posted i spent more time on, but i kno im still gonna look at it and find errors to correct. i've already gone back and done two more things to it since i posted it up here, i can see the mistakes better when im lookin at it as a smaller picture on a computer screen

hahahahahaha! got to agree with you there......

joker: well like i said i literally just thru that one together. it was sumthing i had actually started painting way back but it wasn't turning out right and i just drew that little piece up in the right hand corner on top of the red design that was there before and then drew myself in black and whites in the bottom. it definately woulda been a better idea to make that a vertical canvas tho. but the only thing i actually put any focus onto was the black & white "character". the one thing about that piece i would consider "daimish" is how i put the R in a font letter. i really suck at R's for sum reason right now so thats just a temporary way to get around it, lol. wuts funny is R used to be one of my favorite letters

lol, no actually its me from last year. i heard that shit all the time last summer cuz i always wore a hat and a rag under it. "dam! dat boway look lahk a waht fiddy cent!". i always took it as an insult. but ya i just sketched it from a picture i had of myself.

bobby fisher: i definately dont consider myself your typical arrogant graffiti writer. but then again maybe i am and im being arrogant for thinking im not? but wait doesn't your typical graffiti writer just focus on getting up more than getting better? dammit! im new to canvases, and i dont like typical canvases with just a stupid fucking tag on them. only thing i have used so far is acrylics; and i wouldn't really say i've gotten a good grasp of them yet for the most part. im working on learning characters and backgrounds a lil more right now rather than just doing pieces and bombs all the time like your "typical graffiti writer" does. i have alot on my mind that needs to be expressed but dont quite yet have the skills to express them artistically. but anyways for the most part i didn't spend much time at all on that one canvas. i just kinda through it together while i was bored last nite. if you dont mind can you elaborate on wut u mean by the character is "stiff"? just curious. and as for your advice about "rule of the thirds" i've heard the term before, but it doesn't cross my mind wut exactly it is; but its definately something i will take under consideration. if you offended anybody than fuck whoever you offended. i didn't see any disrespect out of wut u typed, i only saw criticism. did you see the red "lost souls" one i posted? lemme kno wut u think about it, i was focusing more on a message with that one than anything else

  11. apparently sumthin is wrong with my photobucket account, i think i reached my bandwidth limit or sumthin i guess. so sorry about any red X's i've posted. anyways, i just painted this last nite

wow! you finally said something i agree with! (if ur saying wut i think ur trying to say) didn't see that one coming......:D

  13. this is a better response. i agree with you. as long as your doing the same thing u were to begin with than how can that make you a sell-out? thats obviously just jealousy on part of the person making that accusation. basically it seems you are saying the same thing i am saying about expressive art's main purpose being to expand peoples perceptions rather than to sell? as for you saying that the idea of "respect" is double importance. sadly i dont see very much of that between writers in the graff game. and it really annoys me.

    deceipt,

no one calls twist a sellout. no one calls reas a sellout. no one calls futura a sellout. no one calls sheppard fairy a sell out. these are dudes that came up with something, stuck by it, and rode it into stardom. they didnt change their style to match the newest fads, they created them. if someone really has something that interesting to say, people will listen. it might not be a cultural revolution, but the respect of the informed is more important than the fame of the ignorant.

and the word is 'what', not 'wut'.

actually i've heard quite a few people call shepard fairey a sellout. because of him selling posters for so much or wutever. but i told those people to SHUT THE FUCK UP. i have complete respect for sumbody who "came up with something, stuck by it, and rode it into stardom" and i feel if they are already an established artist or wutever than they are in less need of support than sumbody who is up-and-coming. i guess that means my interpretation of art is different from yours? to me "art has its best moments when it forgets its very name" - jean dubuffet. basically stating that art isn't about fame or money. and the purpose of expressive art is to expand peoples perceptions on things. not to sell for high prices because of sum reputation you have.

"gaining fame has nothing to do with luck its about knowing a thousand people that are dumb as fuck"

alot of the time just because you've made a name for yourself doesn't necessarily mean you are a more talented artist than sumbody who hasn't yet. you can completely suck but if you get the right kind of publicity than people will admire you, regardless of how much you suck. look wut hte music industry has become, less focused on making good music and more focused on publicity.

the problem i have with alot of people that try selling their work is that they completely fail to realize/accept/understand the fact that mediocre artwork from a no-name individual is worth just slightly less than a stolen glue stick from kinkos, and that their attempt to peddle it (especially on the internet) is basically retarded.

if dude was to go down to his little hipster area of the city, set up a little table and try selling his stuff, or put it up in coffee shops or something, fine, have at it. do it locally where people can get a feel for you, maybe even talk to you about your work and what it means to you. but putting something on ebay, (esp. with such a completely ridiculous starting price) is implying that you already know theres a market for it, the only question is how much is it going to bring in. to quote our english friends 'bullocks!'. when you have to rely on the strength of other peoples names (that you have no connection to what so ever, save the occasional bitten style) to even get your stuff looked at, that's just sad.

i'm not trying to be an asshole here, this is all just my opinion, and it's certainly nothing personal. i'd say the same thing to my best friend.

you have a point and i can understand exactly wut ur saying. but here is one example i have. lets say you are some underground artist and you have a message but nobody fuckin cares wut you have to say because u arent sum famous celebrity motherfucker. but then if you actually rise up and start getting ur message to the public than people turn around and call you a sell out. no matter wut u do ur fucked. sumbodies social credibility shouldn't make their opinion more important than others in every case. if sumbody can state facts or make logical points in an argument than that is wut should matter. u get wut i mean? i could care less how high sumbody elses social status is. all i care about is whether they are doing sumthing that appeals to me or not. i see nothing wrong with people trying to sell their art on ebay. nothing wrong with it at all.

as for kristina's response to yours: i believe it is immortal technique who said: "success and fame has nothing to do with luck; its about knowing a thousand people that are dumb as fuck" or sumthin like that. damn good quote if u ask me

as for your last sentence. thats the part i agree with you on. if ur talking about wut i think ur talking about. for example i get annoyed when people put a bunch of shout-outs next to their pieces. when half the time they dont even really know the people they are shouting out to. they are just referencing them so it makes them look better. wuts really sad is writers who make up crew names for non-existant crews. they just use it as sum bullshit reference material. and i kno quite a few people that do this.

ur not being an asshole at all. i respect you for expressing your opinion without trying to make other people look stupid for theirs.
