That restitution is egregious. There are laws she can play to attempt to get it reduced and so forth, but regardless. The Dakota Pipeline produces roughly 570,000 barrels a day. At a current price of $75 and change, it pulls $42 million+ a day.. the average human being makes $1-2 million in a lifetime.

Basically she was given a life sentence.

It's all factored in by loss of revenue during the fix.  But 'factored' is hugely inflated.  

 

I do not agree with the punishments, I think its way over the top.  But O&G has a great deal of influence and absolute control in this country.

Restitution should be handled by non-criminal courts if damages can be proven, not just made up like in graffiti cases. It's fucked what she did, but at the same time it should be useless to sue someone for that much money who isn't wealthy. "You now owe two trillion, due in monthly payments of 14k for the next 142,857,143 years (plus interest)"  If there's a threat of force/jail for missed payments they're basically making her a slave to a corporation.

Middle ground would be fining her 5k and telling here the pipeline you damaged is for maple syrup, not oil.

For sure. Enough that it would sting for many, many years but not enough to just bury her permanently
