Fist 666
If you live in a union state you can make a lot more than $30/hr. Seattle area ibew is around $60, talked to a dude who moved down from Boston and said it was around $50 there. I'm in a definitive anti-union state so my wages are half that. My cost of living compared to most of those cities/union places is also a lot lower so I'm doing fine. Plumbers and hvac both make more than sparkies around here. Hvac dudes bleed a lot, plumbers deal with human feces, and electricians get zapped every once in a while. You pick your battles. 1
LUGR
Plumbers are absolutely insane and I appreciate them the most.
NightmareOnElmStreet
DUDES!!!! Success!!! I’m late as a mf decorating for Christmas. Knew I had all this shit laying around to try out and decided to tackle the non working outdoor socket on my porch. It’s probably wrong in more ways than one but I successfully installed a working outlet and I’m fucking stoked lololol. 3
NightmareOnElmStreet
At first I kept trying to use the old one but it wasn’t cooperating at all. Forgot I had new outlets and just grabbed one of those. Couple wire finagling. Bam.

Mercer
Propers on that repair. Also just put a new outlet up under my roof late AF in December. Lights are nothing fancy, but I noticed I stared at that shit when I got them up for a minute. First time doing lights on the house. Honestly never thought I'd be out there like Clark Griswold. You put the lights yet? 2

Mercer
Ive got 3 giant elms with these tiny little bullshit ass leaves that are impossible to rake. Raked/cleaned the entire yard spotless mow that all the leaves are down. Then climbed up on the roof, did the lights and noticed my gutters were clogged full of leaves and frozen goop. So I had to take the blower up and make a fucking mess on all 4 sides of the house and then cleaned that shit again like an asshole. 2
NightmareOnElmStreet
Didn’t go full ham to the roof. Gonna keep it light on the porch area but next year I’m goin crazy. FullSizeRender.MOV
fat ralphy
Looks good fam….the last few years as a single dad have kinda killed my spirit as far as putting lights up outside. I drag out the tree and have the kids help decorate that. Small victories. @NightmareOnElmStreet got that nice curb appeal dude - looks classy.
Mercer
Got the street side done, the other half of my lights are arriving after Christmas so this as far as I’m going this year. 2

Nice place! Looks like you have one hechuva driveway to shovel during those heavy snow-ice seasons. Anyhow, I like the walk up entry way to the door. Looks like adding a large deck out front would really add to the home if dine right I suppose. Would make great street appeal. 2
mr.yuck
Or my man needs a set of French doors installed on his second story front and center of the house with one of those little faux balconies with the wrought iron railing so that he may show his face during times of dispair, share important news, and wave to all of his adoring subjects... Erm, NEIGHBORS, to show solidarity in the trying times to come. 1

mr.yuck
Yo. I'm not gonna lie. Landscaping maintenance is the most garbage home owner shit ever. Least favorite. Don't care for it.
fat ralphy
@mr.yuck it’s definitely hard ass work if you want to do it right, I have a fee projects I want to tackle next year. Do it myself for like 2k - I bet I would pay like 8-10k to hire someone. DIY is my go to off top.

You put the lights yet? My wife, bless her, won't let me put lights up because she's paranoid I'm going to fall off of our roof or something. I'm not a bonehead or anything, but you never know. We do lights around our tree and up and down our porch column etc, wreaths on our lights. 1

Same, my wife and her friend were late for some social thing the other day when I was doing it but they wanted to stay incase I fell. I've literally worked on ladders and roofs most of my entire adult life. Guess it's the number one ladder activity people that don't work with ladders normally get hurt doing. They have these new gutter clips you attach using an extension pole now. Might use it next year for more safety and convenience. you basically attach the lights/clips on your gutters with the pole and run the wires.
metronome
Now there's an idea. My community just joined a govt program we have that lets you finance "green" projects for low rates. Payments tack onto your property taxes (we mostly pay them monthly here). Thinking its time to get onto solar panels.

Nothing like watching someone older and more experienced in the trades struggle with a 16 footer. Brings me great joy lolol.
Mercer
Yep, I get that cringe feeling watching anyone who isn't blue collar, or at least handy try to work with ladders, tools with zero experience. Watched someone try to figure out a cordless drill the other day, they had no idea how to loosen/tighten the chuck. I thought they were going to rip their palm off trying to figure it out. Didn't say shit because they were the easily butthurt sensitive type and I could see the bitch in them struggling to come out.
