Gerrymandering at its finest...

Recommended Posts

Excuse my ignorance.....

How does anyone other than politicians benefit from districts being divvied up like this?

What is a single argument in favor of gerrymandering?

Skewed from the POV of blue, but you get the idea.

This sort of leads into the discussion of electoral college.

Sorry, to more specifically answer... It depends on whether your political party lines up with the representation.

End of the day, it doesn't make an ounce of difference. Sort of like most of our political process these days, when you start factoring in whats really happening.

No, it’s specifically the act of drawing boundaries of electorates to benefit a particular party. Look up the definition of the word, that will answer your question.

The etymology of the word is cool too - involves salamanders, believe it or not.

@Hua Guofangtelling me to look it up in a dictionary is great and all but....

Can anyone provide me a single argument supporting gerrymandering, from the perspective of the people?

No, that's the point, mate. It doesn't exist with the electorate in mind, it exists for political parties to 'steal the vote'. It's done TO the electorate, not FOR the electorate.

Although, I'm sure some one will say "it benefits the electorate because we are the better party and protect you from the failures of the XXX party".

gerrymander
/ˈdʒɛrɪˌmandə/

verb
gerund or present participle: gerrymandering
  1. manipulate the boundaries of (an electoral constituency) so as to favour one party or class.
