There is something very pure about Neck Face's motivations to me.

Just encapsulating that energy of being a troublemaker skate rat and never changing.

Kind of part of the graffiti scene but not really apart of the standard writer criteria.

I like his crackhead chicken scratch more than most of the fancy legal eagle shit

hell I think I agree for 90 percent of writers.

Unless they are on some next level shit like Nychos anatomy pieces or Mare's large scale sculptures.

I've always had the most respect for dude. Whole lot of completely random ass places I'd catch said "crackhead chicken scratch" and dig it. LOL. In fact, the most random of spots was the very first moment I got off the subway in Tokyo back in 05/06. As soon as I emerged from the underbelly of the busy streets I looked up and saw the craziest triple neck face roof top-isa joint. I have the flick some where.

I don't really understand why he gets a huge pass from the "real graff scene" while the other anti-style shit (and I mean shit) catches the hate it does. I really don't see the difference. While "crackhead chicken scratch" is an insanely apt description of his work, why is that good?

I don't get it. I thought it was neat at first, but it's been like 15 fucking years, maybe more, since I first saw his work and it has not changed or done anything innovative in that time frame.

haters gonna hate I guess...

I have a certain amount of respect for him, but i agree with all of that. I dont get the huge appeal of most of his art, and i’m certainly not paying the prices it goes for. I think he’s just a wild man and got more validation through skating than graffiti (at least from what i ever saw or heard.) I honestly vaguely knew his name from graffiti, and never really saw any work. I have however seen his shit pushed HEAVY through the skateboard community.

I assume it’s because it’s in your face fuck you devil worship scribble is why skaters love it.

edit: a friend of mine that listened to it actually said “i honestly just thought of you the whole time he was talking. I saw manyyy similarities. I wish you had his money though.”

That’s because i’ve been a wild drug and alcohol fueled skate rat my whole life as well. I don’t fuck with that anti-graffiti though.
