I personally don't think it's right to take away any person's bodily autonomy, or property without their consent. Most of this comes from living in Germany before the iron curtain fell, and also watching my wife's home country be destroyed by people that don't hold these same beliefs. In the end, an emotional, and non-pragmatic approach to economics always leads to increased poverty, by decreasing productivity. By the way, I can imagine working a shit full time job, barely scraping by, while the price of everything is increasing faster than my wages. I've got a couple of decades worth of paystubs to prove it. What I can't imagine is making kids I couldn't afford to feed, and making excuse after excuse why it's not my fault. Economic systems sound great on paper. Within the application you need to be practical and adjust for variables. Unchecked Capitalism is heading for collapse. So, would you rather $5 a day/$25 per week for your kid to eat at school, or live in a system where a community truly takes care of their own, and you pay $5 a week. What sounds more economically logical for the working class? Wouldn’t want to opt in? That’s fine. But you won’t get to benefit off of those who contribute. I don’t have children, but would happily pay the $5/week to be sure no child in an American school ever has to worry about that. I want my community to thrive.
