Dumb shit I'd buy if I won the lotto thread.

Not sure there's a thread for this (probably is), but I know some other conversations overlapped at the very least. Seems that when you hear about people winning the lotto, the results of that win are pretty cliche... Mansion on the water somewhere and a lambo or some other sports car, private jet rides, etc.

Thought it would be fun to to hear from the 12ozProphet crowd what sort of dumb shit you'd get into if you won a mega jackpot like one of those 200+ million dollar Mega Million jackpots. So dream big and aim high and let us know what sort of fun you might have with that kind of dough.

I'll go first...

After likely taking a 6 - 12 months off to just process my situation, eat well, rest and plan, I'd likely have a hard time not buying some shit like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/311732044311

Not going to say it'll be my daily driver, but sure would be a whole lot more original to pull up the club with the entourage in some shit like this.

Likewise, with the way the election is going, how's about a private decommissioned military base / island: http://nypost.com/2015/09/03/former-military-outpost-is-now-a-private-island-you-can-buy/

So there's a bit of a start, but there's a whole lot of awesomeness on sites like this one: http://www.privateislandsonline.com/ I believe a long time ago we had a thread discussing private islands and the potential to have a 12oz reality TV show that would be a cross between Big Brother and Lord of the Flies. Maybe in this age of Kickstarter, we can revisit that plan?

Would probalby buy a house near an active line or yard. Or at least get enough property where I could buy up a few boxcars, a caboose, an engine, just enough track for them to sit on, and drop that shit in my backyard or something. Paint the boxcars, wire the caboose up with electric, carpeting, couches, some bookshelves and shit, man cave that bitch.

Good shit, private islands would always be the way to go.

As for me, id just love a dope home somewhere back in Scandinavia.

Just look at this shit, I can only imagine the tranquility you would experience on a day to day basis.

Yeah, I can definitely get down with a view like that for sure.

An apache helicopter, there's just so many fun scenarios i can play out in my mind if i had a helicopter.

I was thinking... If you bought an old battle ship (some of which even come with some munitions), how would the world respond if we were to invade a nation like the bahamas? would be insta fame at the very least, but curious what laws you'd be breaking if you tried to invade a place like that? Would suppose that if you could find an island nation without a serious military, that also wasn't a member of the UN (if something like that exists), you'd only be subject to that nations laws. Considering other countries generally stay out of coup's from those little countries, maybe they'd all just sit back and watch? If so, we'd have a solid go at turning 12ozProphet into its own sovereign island nation. Ha!

Pinzgauer's are awesome. There a place out east that restores and sells them

I'm partial to the Volvo C303 body design. Parts for both are a bitch to come by, but both can be had for about 20k working.

Unimogs are also pretty good and have a much wider following in the states than a pinz or C303.

If I won the lotto I would hire a financial advisor and figure out how to live only on the interest accrued from the money but I'd dip in at the start and do these things>>>

buy a house in the east bay hills. Along Skyline Blvd or deeper in but not as far as Alamo or bullshit like that.

Let my parents and in laws retire.

Aside from that get the wife one of those Teslas and sell her prius. Maybe get myself a dedicated track bike.

Guns.

Travel.

I'm a simple man with simple dreams.

Yeah, definitely some good car picks up there... Suppose I'd probably buy at least one sports car, but then again might manage to get out of my system to just borrow one for a couple weeks. Think I'd rather spend the money on a nice comfortable deep water fishing boat. Especially if purchasing an island ends up as part of the plan.

Anyone else playing the Powerball this week?

i always think people just aren't thinking big enough when it comes to these jackpots.

i mean really.

i'd design a car company. haha

i'm glad to see buying an island on here,

but i think i'd try to change the world/future/humanity with that kind of money.

at the very least put money into Tesla. start a foundation that cures a disease or brings clean water to millions.

educate thousands of kids and give them a future.

i know i'm a dork.

as for powerball i won't play that shit. i think $2 is too big a waste on some shit that pretty much is guaranteed not to happen

(you ever hear the one about the lottery being a tax on people who can't do math?)

i WILL still drop a buck on megamillions tho

*side note* if we're goin for fantasy island, the husband and i would either buy an entire railroad, or at least, a company that ordered lots and lots of cars to our warehouses

I feel you on this but at the same time, this seems to often cross into a murky area where you see people with money imposing their ideal on those have none (or at least little). I recall reading about Bill & Malinda Gates we're inoculating indigenous populations against certain diseases. Whereas I can see why one would do that, there's something about getting involved in cultures like that which I find disturbing. Likewise, its a slipper slope as fas as the differences in cultural ideals and their perceptions of right / wrong, good / evil, etc. Not to mention the potential for abuse that stems from those sorts of situations.

Creating something like Tesla would be amazing, though I suspect it would take more than $200 million or whatever. I've thought lately about what would happen if you took the idea of communal living to a whole other level... Bought land in the sticks and literally created an entire town built on the idea of independence and self sufficiency. Granted it borders on the ideas of socialism, but what happened in you created a town, industrial center, entertainment, agriculture, etc on a scale large enough where very little outside good or assistance would be needed. Then people would be invited in based upon their agreement to participate in the system and carry a predisclosed amount of the load. Anyhow, just a though experiment inspired by a co-op gardening setup I was recently exposed to.

Yeah, no doubt but truth is if you don't play, your chances of winning are zero versus .00000001% or whatever. I've decided that the $1 - $2 per play is worth the bit of day dreaming I get to have at the thought of what would happen if that .00000001% or whatever happened to go my way.

well, like i said, i'll spend 1 dollar on that chance, but not two.

call me an idiot but that kind of penny pinching has put me in a good spot in life, and taken me on many, many trips.

as for disrupting culture by imposing money onto it, i'm with that.

i'll be sure to keep that in mind when i'm starting orphanages

Honestly for many people my age (college) extravagant dreams from winning the lotto has kind of vanished. For the most part, many of my friends would rather pay off loans, support their parents, and invest in a nice home. Its amazing how our expectations for the future have simplified as many of us get destroyed by debt.

If i won that kinda doe I'd probably pay for a trip to space like not to the moon couldn't afford that, just out to like where the space station is to see the earth in that view to me would be priceless.

Good one, might be down for that myself. I'd read somewhere they actually sell flights to shit like that to raise money to support the program. Wonder what it would cost between training and flight to go up to the ISS and hang for a week or so?

1 lucky winning ticket sold for $420.9M Powerball jackpot

It took more than two months, but someone finally hit the Powerball jackpot Saturday night.

Only one ticket across the country matched five numbers and the Powerball to win the $420.9 million jackpot.

The winning ticket for the 12th largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history was sold at an undisclosed store in Lafayette, Tenn. - about 60 miles northeast of Nashville.

The winning numbers were 17, 19, 21, 37, and 44. The Powerball was 16.

The top prize had been listed as $403 million but climbed due to late ticket sales. If the winner chose the cash option he or she will receive $254.6 million before taxes -- making it the 11th largest cash prize in lottery history.
