Deine Mudder
A good friend of mine worked at the Philly Ritz and the head chef was bringing the crew coke to get through their shifts. I'm so fucking glad I don't work in that industry any more. LOL

theprotester
I guess owning a resturant woulnd't be so bad, but im not washing dishes or catering to anybody. Hahahaha. Might be a quick fling in the hospitality world for you, then.
Fist 666
One of my first kitchen gigs was dishwasher/prep bitch and I've worked up through sous chef. Dishwashing is miserable in its own right, but each position in the brigade sucks in different ways. Compared to being in the weeds during a busy dinner turn as line cook or saucier, sometimes dishwasher is a bit relaxing. (Not to say those mexicans don't earn every fucking dollar they get under the table)
theprotester
I'm happy to do anything. I'm about to mop the floors and clear the drain holds.

CILONE/SK
I think any type of work is all in your outlook. If you enjoy something, you don't mind it. Everyone enjoys different things. Personally, I would not want to cook food for a living, but I know plenty of people who love to do that in any setting.
ThatDrawingBitch
Decy had me read Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen COnfidential the other week, that was interesting. I do wonder how much is exaggerated. I do know from my own brief stint in kitchens (nothing 'real' - was hired to learn from a 'proper' chef once, but he just came in and threw his fucking ego around once a week and taught me literally nothing) that it's hard work just at the shitty chain pub "kitchen" level. Maybe more cos there was almost no satisfaction that came from the churn it out and keep it heated up in advance mentality.
theprotester
Bourdain has come out and said casually that he's completely full of shit on more than one occasion, but I must admit I'm a sucker for his Layover series, because that's far more what I want to see than No Reservations. Fist 666
Bourdain is awesome, of course the stories are a bit exaggerated. I think reading any of his book and expecting gospel is silly. But sometimes he's so fucking douchey that I hate him. His new series Parts Unknown is excellent, at least the 4 or 5 episodes I've caught have been.
