QUOTE:

Gun-ban list proposed. Slipping below the radar (or under the short-term memory cap), the Democrats have already leaked a gun-ban list, even under the Bush administration when they knew full well it had no chance of passage (HR 1022, 110th Congress). It serves as a framework for the new list the Brady’s plan to introduce shortly. I have an outline of the Brady’s current plans and targets of opportunity. It’s horrific. They’re going after the courts, regulatory agencies, firearms dealers and statutes in an all out effort to restrict we the people. They’ve made little mention of criminals. Now more than ever, attention to the entire Bill of Rights is critical. Gun bans will impact our freedoms under search and seizure, due process, confiscated property, states’ rights, free speech, right to assemble and more, in addition to the Second Amendment. The Democrats current gun-ban-list proposal (final list will be worse):

Attorney General gets carte blanche to ban guns at will: Under the proposal, the U.S. Attorney General can add any “semiautomatic rifle or shotgun originally designed for military or law enforcement use, or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm, that is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, as determined by the Attorney General.”

Note that Obama’s pick for this office, Eric Holder, wrote a brief in the Heller case supporting the position that you have no right to have a working firearm in your own home. In making this determination, the bill says, “there shall be a rebuttable presumption that a firearm procured for use by the United States military or any law enforcement agency is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, and shall not be determined to be particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event.” In plain English this means that ANY firearm ever obtained by federal officers or the military is not suitable for the public.

The last part is particularly clever, stating that a firearm doesn’t have a sporting purpose just because it can be used for sporting purpose — is that devious or what? And of course, “sporting purpose” is a rights infringement with no constitutional or historical support whatsoever, invented by domestic enemies of the right to keep and bear arms to further their cause of disarming the innocent.

how can you deny that guns, gun access, irresponsible gun owners, gun show loopholes, etc are part of the problem?

in china a man takes a hammer to school and kills NO ONE.

what was the difference?

our crumbling sense of community and medicated society vs his crumbled community and maybe walid can comment on RXs over there.

Clearly this 15 year old girl should have been carrying a gun. Only if children arm themselves will things get better.

The 'terrible tragedy' of Hadiya, the girl with an easy smile who was killed after being mistaken for a gang member

Date

January 31, 2013 - 5:38PM

The latest victim of gun violence on the embattled streets of Chicago is a high school majorette and volleyball player who last week was performing at events for US President Barack Obama's inauguration.

The president and first lady Michelle Obama were praying for the family of Hadiya Pendleton, 15, said White House spokesman Jay Carney.

Hadiya was killed on Tuesday by a gunshot to her back while hanging out with friends in a park not far from the Obama family home.

The details of her death shook Chicago and gave fuel to gun-control advocates in the running debate over firearms. The shooting was not unfamiliar for some in Chicago, where gun violence has contributed to at least 40 deaths already this year and more than 500 homicides in 2012.

"But you don't think at 2 in the afternoon at a park you're going to lose the one you love and care about," said Klyn Jones, a friend who was with Hadiya on the day she died.

Friends described Hadiya as a girl with an easy smile and generous nature. She loved Latin class and had worked hard on her overhand serve for the school volleyball team.

The inauguration trip was an inspiration, Klyn said. "He was an African-American from Chicago, and she is too," she said. "It goes to show that as long as you put your mind to something, you can do it and affect the world."

But on Tuesday, Hadiya and about 12 friends were at a park on the city's South Side, not far from the University of Chicago campus. When it started to rain, they all took shelter under a canopy. Klyn said she looked up from her phone and saw a man jumping a fence.

He ran toward the group and started shooting, then jumped into a vehicle, which drove away, according to the police.

As the teens scattered, Hadiya and a teenage boy were shot. Hadiya was hit in the back and pronounced dead at Comer Children's Hospital less than an hour after the shooting.

"It is believed that the offender mistook the group for gang members and fired at them," said Joshua Purkiss, an officer with the Chicago Police Department.

The boy, who was shot once in the leg, is in good condition. A third victim had a graze wound.

Klyn said a friend cradled Hadiya's head in her lap as they waited for the ambulance. Klyn held her hand. They thought she would pull through.

Police announced an $US11,000 reward for information leading to the killer's capture and conviction during a news conference at the North Kenwood park where Hadiya was shot.

"I want this closed now," said Superintendant Garry McCarthy. "I don't want to wait."

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel spoke with Hadiya's mother on Wednesday morning and later, at an unrelated news conference, said the teenager represented "what is best in our city".

"A child going to school, who takes a final exam, who had just been to [the] inaugural," said Emanuel, stopping and looking down at the podium for several seconds to collect himself before continuing. "And I think if anybody has any information, you are not a snitch, you're a citizen. You're a good citizen in good standing if you help."

Hadiya's father, Nathaniel Pendleton, pleaded for someone to step forward and bring the 15-year-old's killer to justice.

"She was destined for great things," he said.

Hadiya was a majorette with the band at her school, one of the city's elite, selective enrollment schools. She dreamed of going to Northwestern University, and talked about becoming a pharmacist or a journalist, maybe a lawyer.

Superintendant McCarthy stressed that neither Hadiya nor anyone in the group she was with were involved with gangs. But it appears the gunman mistook the students for members of a rival gang, he said.

"This guy, whoever he was, the gunman ... you took the light of my life," said Hadiya's father. "Just look at yourself and just know that you took a bright person, an innocent person, a nonviolent person."

No bullet casings were found by investigators at the crime scene, leading them to believe that Hayida may have been shot with a revolver, according to Superintendant McCarthy. While it took awhile to gather witnesses, Superintendant McCarthy said that police were making "a lot of progress".

At Hadiya's Bronzeville home on Wednesday, family and friends gathered to grieve and share stories about the boisterous teen they said had a quirky sense of humour.

Hadiya's brother, Nathaniel Pendleton Jr., 10, recalled how his big sister would often greet him with a few gentle slaps on his cheeks whenever she came home from school.

"She said it was with love," he said.

"It's very painful to see your big sister get slaughtered," the soft-spoken boy said, tearing up as he went through photos of Hadiya on his phone.

Hadiya's aunt, Kimiko Pettis, laughed when talking about her niece, recalling how on Tuesday, the day she was shot, the teen put on make-up and what she declared was a "fabulous outfit" before school.

"She popped out of the bathroom saying, 'I'm ready!' " Ms Pettis said, demonstrating how Hadiya threw her arms in air.

Ms Pettis said her niece loved bands such as Coldplay and Maroon 5. "You could not find any urban music on her phone," Pettis said with a laugh.

I'm sorry, I know I'm not being constructive here but I just cannot believe that people would think that there isn't a problem in the US that revolves around the easy access to firearms.

How many guns in the hands of crims started out as legally owned weapons?

I have no evidence to back myself up here but I'd make the assumption that if guns were not so readily available to society there'd also be less guns in the hands of the criminals. We see all these stupid memes (posted by simple people) making the point that the crims won't be handing their weapons back.

Well maybe you shouldn't have made it so easy for them to get the guns in the first place, yeah?

Secondly, to say that arming yourself is going to deter gangbangers and meth heads is seriously fucking stupid. Gangs are usually armed but that doesn't deter them from shooting each other, does it? So what makes you think the possibility of you being armed is going to deter a large amount of crims, like those posing in MLovin's infantile meme up there?

If you're arguing not for deterrence but for the ability to defend yourself, then look at the situation in the article above. Would you suggest that these 14/15/16 years olds all be armed to walk in the park? An if so, what do you think they'll be like with their gats under fire? You think a bunch of kids and gangbangers having a shootout in a park is a good idea?

Guns are not part of the problem.

sorry, but that seems so out of touch with reality that it leaves me astounded....., and ranting on the internet.

Probably fake and more harmful to you than any illness you may have.

China is not a medicated society, hundreds of millions cannot even afford medical care.

On China I'll say again; anyone who has the slightest understanding of the Cultural Revolution and the amount of lawlessness present in that country would not try and argue that a loosening of gun restrictions would benefit society as a whole.

Most people think that the PLA and security forces were the ones that killed ~6million people in the Cultural Revolution. It wasn't it was the students, workers and general public. It was the PLA who put an end to the violence. Chinese modern history 1001.

But hey, why let that get in the way of making silly little memes?

Is this a serious question? or are you really too stupid to see the point of acknowledging we live in a criminal world, and therefore taking appropriate steps to be able to DEFEND YOURSELF. that's why i carry 95% of the time. it's not to deter crimes, it's to defend myself if i ever absolutely needed to. i work late nights in a not great part of my city where practically every surrounding place of business has been robbed or had problems except us, so i take the precautions that i see fit.

it sounds to me what you're basically suggesting is "gangbangers will shoot you just like they shoot each other, so don't even try and stop them from harming you." how about taking a stand from being a victim.

No, i'm not arguing that minors should have guns.

So it's ok for you to arm yourself in a risky environment but kids in a risky environment just have to hope for good luck? How does that work?

Now, I know that the US is too far fucked to introduce any real controls and restrictions. It's too late, you armed all your bad people and now you're fucked. We all live in a criminal world, however the difference is that my part of the world isn't awash with guns.

So yeah, I can understand that if you're in a high-risk environment that you'd want to be able to defend yourself. So what are the school kids, the kids in the park, people in churches and normal everyday movie cinemas meant to do? Given recent events I think it's safe to say these are high risk environments too. Should all the other people who are at risk arm themselves too, so every day can be shootout day?

Bottom line is that whilst Americans thought the second amendment was keeping them safe it was really just eroding your safety.

There is nothing that can be done, you have too many guns that is the problem.

If someone can buy a gun secondhand from someone or at a gunshow without full background checks being done then how do you know you aren't just handing guns over to criminals.

It is like Walid said we live in a criminal world, just our countries aren't flooded with guns and whilst guns aren't the only issue that you have, it is a pretty fucking serious one.

So Mr Incognito, if you don't think kids should be allowed to protect themselves then why aren't they covered under the 2nd amendment? Just playing devils advocate because obviously kids shouldn't be armed but then again neither should anyone.

If I do not think kids should be allowed to protect themselves then why are they not covered under the 2nd amendment?.....that's an interesting question because no matter how many times i read it, im pretty sure it makes no fucking sense.

when you say nobody should be armed, does that include police? your opinions seem pretty hypothetical - "nobody should be armed." that's fine, in a perfect world there would be zero guns anywhere but that will never happen because we live in real life. so what are you going to do in real life? i choose self defense. If i don't need it, good. I don't want to use it, i don't want to shoot anyone, but if i have to i will.

and somehow so many of you faggots have problems with that due to your gun phobias.

Yea I don't see why the police need to be armed, you can have armed response units (like we have over here) but I definitely don't think every cop should be armed.

But the culture is completely different here, most criminals aren't armed with guns so the police don't need to be.
