I can't tell whether they're cops playing dress up or National Guard. Either way, if they keep fucking up and shooting people in the back the cops are going to lose whatever legitimacy they have in the US.

There was a solidarity with Anaheim march in Oakland last Friday...the main cop bar here got trashed, no arrests.

Another kid got killed here in June by the cops, but it doesn't seem to be getting a whole lot of press beyond the Bay Area. Google "Alan Blueford" for more details.

If I lived in a insignificant country, I'd probably comment passionately on the domestic policy of another more significant and awesome country.

I know, discussions on a web forum. Crazy world, huh?

@ Shai - I'm trying to work out what that vehicle is in the pic, but it looks a little too urban assault-ish for National Guard. But yeah, no doubt that you kids have got yourself a bit of a cop problem over there.

Recently you asked me why I don't have a problem with civilians having guns.

It would make me a lot happier if no one had guns, including the cops...but we aren't as enlightened as other countries in that sense. Saying who's to blame for the state of things is a "chicken or the egg" debate, so I'll let everyone make up their own minds about that.

My gut feeling is that my neighbor will probably defend my interests far more capably than the cops will in many situations...in fact, my neighbor doesn't look at me weird nor does he walk around strapped looking for problems, either.

yes, but that doesn't mean those are police. i've had to work with state and local police while in the national guard, with floods, not riots.

it wouldn't surprise me for it to be NG, tho. the seattle WTO protests were met with WA NG soldiers.

i don't know police rules of engagement, but my army ROE was pretty clear that w/o positive ID on a weapon/trigger a fleeing person is not a threat to be met with bullets.

deadly force should only be used when there is a threat to human life, not as a means of stopping or slowing someone.

(i didnt read the first few pages so sorry if this has already been talked on)

acab and stuff.

I know Fist, Christo was addressing the ''urban assult vehicle''

As for the dolts, they look like NG to me.

Fist if I may ask you a seperate question,

How exactly does the NG work?

I know theyve got a website but I want to hear it straight from the grunts mouth.

How likely are you to be sent to war?

How long is a basic commitment?

What kind of training do you get?

yes, wa ng. most states call their units by their two letter code then ng, washington is the only one i know of that uses 'WA AR NG' as their official description. i take great amusement in using WANG it its place. no no homo or pause needed.

NG is a joke. going from active to NG is one of the worst experiences of my life. deployments past and pending lend nothing towards basic discipline, respect, integrity, etc. the 'weekend warrior' mindset limits a lot of potential and inhibits true military bearing.

leaving active i considered myself an okay nco, lots of room for growth but also plenty of knowledge and experience to back the rank. in the guard i'm an allstar and should be wearing 2 ranks higher than i do. i've got guys over me who've been in since '87 and peaked in the mid 90s.....

now that iraq is mostly done deployment is less likely, but still not out of the picture. there are still guard units in kuwait as well as afghanistan.

the commitment is all over, from 2 to 8 years to sign up, pretty decent benefits come with it. basic training and advanced training are the same as active soldiers. the problem is that what active soldiers get from their units, guard soldiers never get, and what they got from basic they forget.

threre might be good guard units out there but mine is not one of them.

Must spread, thank you for that.

Anyway, just wanted to mix the conversation.

As much as I love bashing the pigs when they deserve it, the thread's about run its course.

OPD is under review from the Fed Shai, they been saying anything about it around your way?

YEah, when I got out, I got right out. But my mates that went from regs to reserves tell pretty much the same story as yourself, Fist.

Whilst war in real terms only brings suffering and is an ugly blight on existence, I still encourage people to consider enlisting. If you put in there are a lot of benefits you can gain from the experience. Apart from the obvious fact that going warrior, shooting and blowing shit up is just fun, it also builds the person. Took me from not being able to hold a job to doing pretty well at whatever I commit to.

The kind of thing where you get out of it what you put in. Admittedly, though, you guys get paid shit. Australians are one of the highest paid soldiers in the world.

This is totally off subject, but if you're thinking about signing up Cunt just go active duty air force. Its about the same work load but you will be in the rear with the gear, and the biggest crisis you will face is a broken a/c unit on your quarters. The national guard is a joke, case in point...

About 6 months after I got out of the Navy, a NG recruiter called and offered me $30,000 for 5 years half up front and the rest in yearly installments because my skills set was categorized as "critical fill". At first I told him to fuck off but the policy of no deployments for two years and the $ clouded my judgement.

Big mistake, I spent 12 weekends and 2 weeks hanging around bullshit halfassed posts in my civilian clothes before being admin-sep'ed for not being MOS qualified. All because nobody could figure out if it was big Army or CA NG that was supposed to issue my uniforms. My unit kept telling me I would get them when I got to the school. When I showed up at Fort Euistis for my school with out my uniforms, they put in a room for the night and put me back on a plane that next day. The cost of a wasted plane ticket from CA to VA and back would have been saved for the price of a couple sets of ACUs. Shit I never even got an ID card for fucks sake, I had to use my contractor ID/vehicle stickers to get on post. Avoid.

i don't think cunt is contemplating signing up, just asking questions.

but i agree christo, signing up for anything other than a combat job is weird.

when kids play army they don't make small servings of shitty food and half assedly fix their toy cars, they get sticks for guns and throw rocks for grenades and kill the enemy with extreme prejudice.

OPD is under review from the Fed Shai, they been saying anything about it around your way?

Oh yeah, it's been in the news for about twelve years now. Then OO happened, and Thelton Henderson realized not much had changed so he's threatening to implement the things he threatened the department with when he wrapped up the Riders case.

However, every time someone tries to call OPD on their shit they somehow manage to get out of any sort of accountability process so I don't expect much to change short of the OPD going into federal receivership. Whether the result of that will be good change or bad is uncertain, but at this point I do know that nothing short of an act of God is going to change OPD's reputation for the better.

Before I get jumped on for what I'm about to say, understand that I do everything I can to see everyone I encounter as a human first and whatever they may represent second. It's not easy, but since the alternative is being prejudiced I don't mind the effort.

Anyway...I used to cut the OPD a fair amount of slack because they were (comparatively) underfunded and understaffed and almost universally hated. I even tried to give them the benefit of the doubt (NOT a free pass) after the first OO camp got broken up and all the ensuing drama, based on what I know and what I saw on different occasions.

Then J28 happened, and any objectivity or slack I might have granted the OPD as an agency evaporated. They still won't admit that they created a shitstorm even though practically all of the evidence points to them as the cause.

HENRICO --

A Henrico County police officer was justified in shooting a troubled, unarmed man who had been threatening a family member at an apartment complex off Three Chopt Road and dared police to shoot him in April.

Commonwealth's Attorney Shannon Taylor said Tuesday that she has concluded that the April 26 incident that resulted in serious injury to Roger Allen Skeens placed an officer in danger.

"It is not essential to the right of self-defense that the danger should in fact exist," Taylor wrote in a lengthy summary of the incident, adding that it is necessary only that a danger to life "reasonably appears" to exist for an officer to act in self-defense.

Family members of Skeens, who is 20 and has a history of mental-health issues and threats of suicide, could not be reached for comment Tuesday. Skeens received weeks of hospital care after an officer fired on him as he approached the officer's partner, ignored orders to "get down" and shouted, "Shoot me, shoot me."

Taylor concluded that the officer who fired on Skeens was justified in doing so because his partner was afraid and because Skeens, who had no weapon or dangerous object, walked aggressively toward the other officer and was within 10 feet of him.

Taylor said the incident lasted less than four minutes and followed an emergency call to police shortly after 3 p.m. from an adult who lived with Skeens. According to the 911 call, Skeens had broken back into the home and she had to "run for her life."

Neighbors saw Skeens breaking furniture and damaging a car. Video footage taken by a neighbor showed Skeens walking toward police with their weapons drawn and with his arms outstretched.

Taylor said that as Skeens approached the officer, he ignored the officer's efforts to calm him in a manner consistent with training for handling people in crisis. When Skeens got within 10 feet of the officer, the other officer fired a singe shot, striking Skeens in the stomach.

The firing officer feared that if Skeens reached the other officer, Skeens could have taken the officer's gun and shot him, according to Taylor. Skeens weighs less than 120 pounds.

Police initially said "shots" were fired during a struggle but corrected that to say there was no struggle and that only a single shot was fired.

Taylor could have sought charges against the officer if she had determined that the shooting was not justified. She said the officer who fired the shot has been on the police force for "two or three years."

Skeens described himself on Facebook as a student at Vampire University and as a "blood alchemist and neck biter."

He had been in court on the morning of the shooting on an embezzlement charge, which has been held in abeyance to provide time for Skeens to make restitution and receive counseling. He had worked at a Walmart store and was accused of taking $3,200.

The officer who fired on Skeens had been placed on administrative leave, but it was not immediately clear if he has been returned to regular duty in the wake of Taylor's conclusion.

I guess were to the point now the Jakes can shoot you knowing you are unarmed.

Notice he weighs less than 120lbs and the officers were afraid who could take their guns

from them.

What if you or I had shot this bird of a man?

This country's law enforcement is beyond out of control

Air force?!! Pssshh.

Airborne or Marines.

Why join the forces if not to fight?

I'm guessing a good portion if not the majority of people who join the military are just doing it for the money.

Good paying jobs are scarce as fuck these days, as are jobs with any kind of real benefits.

Unless you're signing up to be a fighter pilot or Navy SEAL, I don't think anybody's joining the Airforce or Navy with dreams of battlefield glory.
