Rarely do they ever bring up any of the background to christmas, because they are afraid that they will offend someone and that will result in lost sales. Maybe your use of the word "lie" does not make sense? A "lie" indicates that someone is telling you something that is not true. For the most part, the "marketed materialized traditions" are doing exactly what they are suppose to, sell more shit. To say that they have taken over christmas, would make more sense, since religion or any other background to christmas, is not really a part of it anymore, at least until you go to church or whatever else like that.
