He was active in New York City in the 1970s and early 1980s, and later hosted the first hip-hop music video show on TV, "Yo! MTV Raps". Media workFab 5 Freddy was referenced in Blondie's 1981 hit song "Rapture". As recounted in the 1999 TV documentary The Hip Hop Years, the "Rapture" video featured Freddy in a cameo role painting graffiti art in the background. (Grandmaster Flash, who was also name-checked in the song, did not show up on the day of the shoot, so artist Jean-Michel Basquiat took his place behind the turntables). "Rapture" was the first hip hop video to be shown on MTV. Sorry but those canvases with their very mediocre idea really put me off. It's the kind of thing a young graffiti writer in a high school art class would put together. Id like to see some of the music video's he directed, maybe they're better. On a lighter note, when he said "they come up in here biting your style man ?! SCOOBY DOO!" in wildstyle, I lol'd.
