Or San Francisco - either way, I made it down to Oceanside, CA without getting into too much trouble. I picked up a hitchiking girl - well she was just walking and I turned around and picked her up - but anyway she said her name was Patch Stardustt. She was walking North from Big Sur and we hit it off pretty good. She was 22, high school dropout, walking around and being a vagrant. I only got one or two photos of her, but she was very nice. I bought her a shit ton of food with my EBT and we went back to the woods. "Hey, do you wanna go see some hot springs in Big Sur? There's an old man out there who makes violins and lives alone in the forest 20 miles from anyone..." Fuck yes I do! It was a harrowing 5 mile hike in to the first camp site, almost all switchbacks and small climbs, and we made it just before dark. We smoked one of the darts provided so kindly by Karl Hungus (thanks dude) and met up with some Marines who were camped out next to us. We sat by the fire and drank their whiskey until just before dawn... it was glorious. I was all for having some intercourse but as the whiskey wore off I got kind of lazy. We tried sleeping in the tent together but then she got resltless and decided to sleep under the stars. It was bout 30 degrees and drizzly but she said she couldn't stand not seeing the stars. The hike was not as bad as coming in, but it was a lot of down hill. Still pretty nasty. We made it to the hot springs at a little before 9 am and she decided she's stay there for a while. She'd walked some thirty or forty miles in two days before I'd picked her up and her ankles were looking pretty rough. I lost interest in the Violin Maker because I forgot that I had told this guy Nerf that I'd be in Santa Barbara to paint that day. Whoops. Anyway they were sulfer springs - very pungent, and the hike to them was spotted with beautiful juniper trees and old growth pine, all along a mild and super clear river, about two miles from camp. The springs jutted out from the mountain in little pods of water and we got nekkid without asking questions. I thought we might try to put the moves on each other or even plant tulips but it just wasn't the scene. She was nice, but I knew I was leaving that day so it kind of put a damper on the fire. For the first time I saw that she was cut up all over - scars lined her arm like a plaid sweater. Big gash down the soft part of her wrist. Then bible quotes tattooed on her shoulders and upper arms. She said she believed in Harry Potter and that the mountain talked to her at night. I stayed with them for 2 weeks and drank more booze and smoked more trees than I ever had iin my life... and before I left Nerf came down from Santa Barbara with his homie and they tried to get strippers but in some drunken tussle his homie dropped an envelope with over 1k in it at the bar....he was pretty unhappy about it. So many funny stories... kind people. But anyway yall should check out LUHD - it's the little company they run to make a profit and house vagrants like me. They had a pretty slick little ODB shirt. Dude - not a single one. over 220k, about 30 of which since I started the trip 1 year ago. I had my transmission slipping for a minute there sporadically but I drained the Transmission fluid and replaced it and I haven't had an issue yet. Aside from having to jack up the fucking car every time I get into any mud. Seriously...two wheel drive subaru. And it puts all the power to the wheel that spins freely. I'd like to have something that isn't directly adjacent to homo dungeons and corn chugging pornography if at all possible. Does anyone recommend a blog? I am thinking tumblr. But I don't know anything about all of that stuff. Side note - still working on the book and adding to it as I go. I am at about 15,000 words and have lots to go. Very excited!
