Gnarly Sheen
I'll be working in D.C. for 4 days starting Tuesday. When I'm not doing bullshit, I'd like to see / do something. I'll be staying around the zoo area and I have no fucking clue if it's even wroth trying to get out-- you tell me. I've been once before, but it was only for a day and I just saw the capital building and a couple monuments. I'm trying to hit up some good bars, good food, venues to hear good music, cool sights? tits.jpg

MAR
I lived in DC for 13 years, I can tell you it definitely doesn't suck. You had people from Baltimore showing you DC. If I'd shown you Bmore, it'd suck too.
injury
it will be an armpit. pack shorts and this Reasonably in the zoo area ... there's not much except expensive bars. Avoid the metro on weekends if they're still doing repair work. Also don't go anywhere near the nat'l mall cause it's still semi tourist season. DC banned single beer sales in most wards of the city so dont expect to go to stores and cop single beers if thats what you're into. Calvert woodley is a ridiculously well-stocked liquor store in your neighborhood that'll hook you up good if you're looking for somethin' special. Crazy selection & they know what they're talking about, it's in the zoo area too. They had a deep bargain bin full of grey goose last time i checked in there. Alcoholic paradise. If you are looking to meet hookers and eat greasy food in their general vicinity and maybe find a pube in your food go here. A few miles from the zoo. 24 hours/day. This is a local spot that I think kills 5 guys. Good burgers & fries, same prices as 5 guys, 2 locations that are close-ish to the zoo as well. Z-Burger Cool sight to go to while high: bishop's garden at the national cathedral. Plants and shit. Georgetown sucks, avoid at all costs. All the restaraunts down on the potomac georgetown waterfront are still under reconstruction so I'd avoid there too.
injury
Also you might be able to catch the end of open season AKA intern season AKA best time of the year. It's like christmas except with vagina.

Gnarly Sheen
Injury, I come from the land of swamp weather, so I can't imagine it will be too bad. What's AKA? Sound enticing.
injury
AMF is exactly right, it is the peak of blue crab season which is a VA/maryland/DC specialty. There are seafood places and a market down in southwest dc, at a place called the maine avenue fish market. They should steam the crabs for you right there, i wouldnt fuck with the pre-cooked. Get fresh. If you really want some from-water-to-plate places, they're further out in MD, about an hour or 2 away. Severely worth it if fresh seafood's your thing and you have a car/someone to accompany you. This is happiness: + AKA... legendary. DC and the bloated government organizations that occupy it hire thousands of young college or grad school interns every summer. This is the end of the season but you could probably still bag a doe. This list is a good place to start. REMEMBER: these are recommended hunting zones, not for the quality of the bar itself!! For actual bars that you might actually enjoy try out some places anything goes posted.

anything goes
unfortunately, official intern season ended about a week ago but I'm sure there are some left over stragglers hanging out at Chef Geoffs or the Fox and Hounds who just don't want their summer in DC to be over before they head back to Ohio for their senior year in college. DC is pretty much a ghost town right now with everyone and anyone who works for the Government or with the Government on vacation at the beach. As far as the white wimmens are concerned you're pretty much staying in the best spot for all the white girls who moved to DC from the midwest and are too shook to live east of rock creek park. Woodley Park/Zoo/Cleveland park are full of those types.
!@#$%
DC is pretty fun. if you can't find anything to do that's good, you probably are pretty lame adams-morgan, has bars. the mall has sites. i'm sure you won't have much trouble if you like to take pics. check the 9:30 club lineup, i have seen tons of great bands there and had a blast many times over. ben's chili bowl is sort of an institution i was thinking of checking out newseum next week but decided to pass after learning it costs $26 same for the spy museum.. seems awesome but admin is pricey, and with all the fantastic free ones i can't justify paying.
Lewis and Clark
national botanical garden was pretty ill when i went... not sure whats in bloom this time of year but walking from jungle to desert to hawaii to northwest forest is fucking cool. and national art museum was a trip and i'd suggest if you like that sort of thing holocaust museum is pretty crazy too. sad but i'd suggest going stayed away from air/space museum and smithsonian due to it being fucking packed. PROtips. everywhere you walk in has major security. keep your hands out of your pockets or they will yell at you. (got yelled at in line for holocaust musem for this)

injury
Plan another time of the year to visit the things Lewis and Clark posted ... I think DC's museums/tourist shit is best in the fall. DO you likes graff ee tees?
ActionMakesFame
With so much free stuff to do it is hard to pay for any touristy type stuff there... the changing of the guard across the river at Arlington is pretty crazy but you gotta time it right. You cant really go wrong in any museum, the Holocaust Museum is wild.

Gnarly Sheen
Excellent. All of this is solid info. I think I might try to make my way to the Holocaust Museum and maybe an art museum. Definitely will hit bars near by, but I have a feeling it'll be yuppie city.
