pornbooth
So I was informed I could do it with MPEG Streamclip along with the latest version of quicktime but I am not getting a 422 option... I even tried to download the prores codec but was informed during installation I have a newer version already installed. Im confused never had to mess with this stuff before, can someone please me out with this. /windows7 ** I swore my dslr recorded mov I just noticed in the folder it says mvi, I dont know what this means or if it matters much but I thought I would oint it out. dudebra1
Why do need prores? What program are you editing in? If you're just converting a raw file to post as is I wouldn't export as prores. Something like H.264 should be fine for posting online somewhere. If you're editing, your program should have a converter bundled with the software. But again prores takes up a good amount of space, I'd use a low res DV file.

Apparently in my situation FCP needs my files to be prores or else its jumpy as fuck in the canvas and is impossible to edit. I have a ton of footage for 2 of my finals to convert and then edit with little lab time left before they are due next week. I have a pc at home and thought I could save me a lot of time by converting through out the nite and save my lab hours for good edits. Final Cut wont allow to log and transfer H.264 files and if you import them to FCP you gotta always render anytime you do anything in the timeline, which will take way to long to get anything done and the footage in the canvas can get mad choppy as well. Apparently the solution for the Canon vid's is to convert the mov's to prores 422 for Final Cut to work with them. In Quicktime Pro I am getting even less compression options without prores even though it is supposed to be there.

I did look into that aunsoft but couldnt find anything saying there was a windows version. There has to be something out there..... That's the draw back of all these DSLR's shooting HD video. This is why a dedicated video camera is a better option if you want to be a film guy, less headache with file formats and bull shit like what you're looking at now. http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0039308.asp This says Canon Europe in the title, not sure if it's gonna matter. Might want to check into it so you don't wind up with some squoosed footage (PAL/NTSC). Yes it is a pain in the ass! with the popularity of dslr video gaining hopefully there should be a legitimate fix to this in the near future. That eos plugin I hear even has its problems, i havent used it yet so i cant be 100% sure on that. The problem with that for me is the computer labs at school dont have it installed and IF could get a lab tech to install it it would be on only one of the many mac towers here and the chances of getting that computer during lab hours is very slim. thanks everyone for looking out. moogle i tried... gotta spread
Guest Ginger Bread Man
don't expect things to change soon. there is a reason a HD cam costs what it does. all workflows have solutions, some are just more cumbersome than others.

pornbooth
Try this: http://www.squared5.com/ When I shoot with those little Go-Pro cameras the footage doesn't work with Final Cut, so I use this to convert it. I'm not sure it'll work for you, but it's worth a shot. what do you convert to? this program is what i was referring to as mpeg streamclip in the first post so now you got me hoping something other will work. thanks again for looking out.
