lord_casek
Well, I do actually have access to some towers lying around in my father's garage as he runs a person IT business. Further, I do have a job, and will be going to grad school in the fall. nothing wrong with a side hustle though. Casek, I was discussing it with a few coworkers who run pool mining yesterday. One dude is running only one 5850 and pool mining was making about 40 a week last few months, dropped to 20 as the diffuculty cycling has increased. Personally I'd like to create a pool, create a little farm in my dad's place and run it with a few others. Either way, I can't see the harm in just letting it run and keeping things nice and cool on the GPU's. The economics behind it are pretty interesting too. Create a finite amount of unites and then let deflation control the varying value of each bit or it's decimal values. A few of us are thinking of making a pitch to the owner of our company to accept them. It seems like it would take a move on the part of a major online retailer to push them beyond being just a way to by drugs anonymously on line. And I mean shit, even if I can just skim an extra $100 per month off running this, why the fuck not. Further, I think the oz should toss that javascript on the forum, and let the money come in. A kid here at my work had a fairly interesting idea about using the javascript as a means over advertising. So you know, still modeled after the three party transaction that most free services are based on but using cycling on the viewing computer rather than the visual payment of seeing ads, etc. Tell your buddy to get another 5850. It's worth his while to have two running at the same time for a few months while this thing is still viable. I say create a pool. It's a good idea to make a little money now. All for it. lord_casek
Here's a thought. I'm assuming a job in fast food or anything else would on average pay more unless you've somehow come across a steady supply of free computers. Plus when you got home from doing real work and actually contributing something worth while, you'd be able to use your computer to look for a better job or a real career. A friend who is doing this is doing it in his spare time. Built one machine with dual 5850's and now is considering making a second just to mine. He's figuring on making a few thousand while he can. lord_casek
Yep. You've got to work it out where you bring in more BTC's than your power costs.

lord_casek
Btw: when searching the deep web, you want to avoid anything that says "hard candy" and "soft candy", That would be child porn. Actually, just avoid that whole deep web thing completely. It's just not safe. You don't want any of that shit on your hard drive.
misteraven
Going to go ahead and bring this one back to the top. This is pretty insane to look back on. Honestly a HUGE regret (not that I carry many), is that between all of us, especially during this time period in 12oz history, that we didnt organize around this the way we did so much other dumb shit. Can you imagine if we had enough foresight to hit this with the enthusiasm of Destruction League? Anyhow, never too late even if we're well past $1 per BTC. I did start the Jekyll Island Group and we do have several crypto threads including the main one, Cryptocurrency. In any case, I haven't heard much from @lord_casekon the subject. Have to assume your a crypto zillionaire or something? @Mercergoing to tag you since this is your lane, and @CLICKCLACKONERhasnt been around in a minute.
