qsysue
Some random sort of "keep out" flicks. I always wonder how people can stand to live in houses with barred windows. What if there's a fire? San Bernardino, CA. San Bernardino, CA. I was going to climb under the fence (there was a hole) but decided I didn't want to go wandering around back there alone. Bloomington, CA. My husband said: "We'll be here forever if you want to stop at every abandoned house in San Bernardino." Rialto, CA. Rialto, CA. qsysue
That seems weird. I wonder what's up with that.
qsysue
Welcome to the hood! This is pretty close to where I live (gang graff): I see a lot of homeless/tramps wandering around, because I'm near a major train yard. Not sure if this guy is one, but all he needs is that bundle tied to a stick: Found in San Bernardino, CA: No agony, no braggony: Crazy old building in downtown Rialto:
qsysue
Some random stuff I don't think I've posted yet. The walls along the 10 freeway get a lot of action: That was taken with a half frame camera, left exposure upside down. Pioneer cemetery: Empty lot protected by barrels of concrete: This house was for sale for about $90,000: It's things like this that make it all worthwhile: A rainy day in Rialto:
qsysue
Used car lot in Fontana, aka Fontucky: Lots of sidewalk furniture in socal: Not to mention Mexican meat markets: Weird clock tower in downtown Rialto: My husband sitting on the Rim of the World: Can't resist certain letters: Found a good benching spot--no neighbors, no homeless tramps, no railroad workers: Where some tracks dead end near my house:
El Jefe Uno
My husband sitting on the Rim of the World: Where is this taken? It looks like somewhere that I might have to take a day trip. Awesome thread! I'm new to Southern California, but this gave me a whole new perspective on the IE. Keep the pics coming! Also, what's your Flickr? If you don't want to share it here, send me a PM if you'd like.
qsysue
Here's my Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/whenigodeaf/ The Rim of the World is up near Lake Arrowhead. Actually, if you click on the photo, it'll take you to the Flickr page, and I mapped where Rim of the World is. Lovely place to go in the summer! How new to Cali are you? I've only lived here 7 years (moved to the IE a few months ago--before that I was in Huntington Beach/Orange County), but there's so much to explore, I always have a big list of places I want to go. D'oh, I guess I missed the image link, haha. I moved out here last summer, so almost a year. I lived on the East Coast my entire life before, so I have a lot of exploring to do as well. Where did you originally move from?
qsysue
Seattle. PM me if you want some suggestions on places to go shooting. I've explored a lot since moving here. Just let me know what kind of photography you're into/what you like to shoot.
qsysue
I can't remember exactly what this building was--but I think it was a church. Taken at a stop light from behind the wheel of my truck: Rialto Metrolink station, testing out a camera someone gave me--has light leaks: I choose left. I know a place to sleep by the railroad tracks: There's even some shelter overhead: Someone's always leaving shopping carts on our street--the other day we saw some kids that had tied one to a tree with a rope and were using it as a swing:
!@#$%
shopping carts in a america might be a nice photo essay for me to do. i like that shot^
qsysue
Shopping carts are all over the place in Socal. There are people who have shopping cart retrieval businesses--they drive around to bus stops and pick them up and return them to the stores. El Jefe Uno
The amount of shopping carts and stray animals blew me away when I moved out here, haha. So many stray dogs and cats...
qsysue
Yeah the strays are heart-wrenching. I think it's gotten a lot worse since the economy tanked. People can't afford to take care of their pets. You don't want to know how many dead dogs I've encountered in the IE on the roads...it's traumatic. I'm hoping to be able to adopt a dog for Christmas this year--but I don't want to end up not being able to afford it. So I don't know yet. qsysue
This is my first summer in the IE, and the heat has been keeping me from getting out shooting much (locally--going into LA is easier, not as hot there). So I've mainly been shooting trains locally--in the evening when it's a bit cooler and my husband can come with. This is what he does while we're waiting for trains: This train was rolling by really slowly--had to shoot it from a gap in the fence where the gate was: WAYS - SARKS - SERVO Sun going down: OCP Traveling bees: See some weird stuff on trains sometimes: The Ringling Bros circus train was in town recently but I didn't get any shots. Residents only:
qsysue
Some non-train related shots I've managed to take: I see that diamond around, not sure what it's about. Bloomington, CA. Let's go: San Bernardino, CA. Life and health for our children: Wires and concrete = socal. Most of these shots I took from the driver's seat of my car. Just too hot to get out and walk around. People live under freeways: Yell like hell: Those billboards are along the freeway and they were taken down recently and left alongside the train tracks here. Kinda weird. Completely blank. People have started tagging them up.
El Jefe Uno
Great shots qsysue! I was actually up in Arrowhead this past weekend, and got a chance to see the Rim of the World highway. Pretty rad views from up there.

El Jefe Uno
I got a few, on the way up it was already dark, but I got a few decent ones on the way down. Now I just need to load my memory card onto the computer, haha.

qsysue
Thanks. Yeah in the 100s here too. I went out yesterday and shot a few from my nice air conditioned car. :)
El Jefe Uno
I'm still trying to determine if the heat out here is worse than the humidity back East... Jury is still out.
qsysue
I'm still trying to determine if the heat out here is worse than the humidity back East... Jury is still out. Ugh. We had that huge rainstorm the other Sunday, do you remember it? And the humidity was high for a couple days after--humid AND 100 degrees is just insane! I don't know how people handle it in places where it's always like that. I lived in Hawaii and it's humid there, but it also never gets above 85. eviltrailer77
Good shit in here girl, I love the grittyness of your shots. This winter after it snows, try to check out rim of the world on a clear full moon night. Top 10 views ever. So many people think cable cars or rodeo drive when CA is mentioned, they know nothing of the wastelands.
MOOGLE?
man theres so many spots to catch also.. like seriously just going from the the start of highland ave in highland city and following it to arrowview middle school is nuts.. theres so much hidden shit around the offbranch streets it would take years to find it. the old norton airforcebase, areas around the orange show pavilion, the huge wasteland areas between redlands and san bernardino, and the sewer tunnels are nuts ..theres like a whole mile of stuff done by a cat named wizard from like 87-90 near the highland part of baseline..could go for days about this
qsysue
Thanks for the info. I haven't explored anything in Highland yet, when it got hot this summer I started mostly benching trains instead of doing much walking around.
MOOGLE?
lol.. there a few areas as far as yards that are still slightly untouched. usually if you start seeing, dbi, jhf, cfk, haf,de,ruh,ca,cak you are getting close to old yards. stuff like sidewalk acrylic tags... paint stick tags with industrial markers and crayons. there was a period in the late 90's inks and staining metal with stickers was a normal practice since the dry heat would pretty much bake off any sticker from any surface. but really the thing about the 909 is the sheer amount of urban decay thats either hidden or just plain covered over with boards. all of it carries a strange sense of something lurking just behind those abandoned walls that's ubiquitous as fuck no matter where you go exploring. http://tinypic.com/r/rw2bs0/7 one notable place is this flowershop and the whole area extending to the 7-11.. its one of the few areas with shops that have stood the test of time. going down past san bernardino highschool is the original mc donalds and the remains of a burger place called monster burger. nearest to the flowershop is gladys games..and the tattoo shop. hands down the greatest people watching spot ever since its on a busline. ayso feilds near san gorgonio and my old home on the reservation and surrounding are is still remarkably suburb imma just be quiet and stop waxing nostalgic and let you do your thing in this thread ...
